It's Good to Have Options

When asked by a flight attendant if he wanted something to eat, the airline passenger asked, "What are my options?"

"Yes or no," was the flight attendant's reponse.

While air travelers may have precious few options these days, Accordance users have plenty. Here is a list of ten cool options: all of which can be accessed by holding down the option key:

1. Resize the text in all panes. Hold down the option key while clicking the text-size buttons above a text pane, and the text in all panes of that window will be resized.

2. Close all tabs but one. Hold down the option key while clicking the close icon of a workspace tab, and all tabs but the one you clicked will be closed.

3. Close all panes but one. Hold down the option key while clicking the close icon of a window pane, and all panes but the one you clicked will be closed.

4. Open a reference or user notes pane in the top row. Typically when you open a pane containing a reference tool or user notes, that pane will open in a second row beneath your Bible text panes. If you hold down the option key while opening a reference tool or user notes pane, it will open on the top row, beside your Bible text panes.

5. Amplify by Key Number. If you select a word in a Key numbered Bible text, then hold down the option key while clicking the Search button on the Resource palette, Accordance will search by that word's Key number rather than by the English word itself. This is a quick and easy way to search for every occurrence of a Greek or Hebrew word using an English Bible text with Key numbers.

6. Search for a Greek or Hebrew lexical form. Similar to the last tip, if you select a word in a Key numbered Bible text, then hold down the option key while selecting some other resource from the Resource palette (such as a lexicon), Accordance will search that resource for the Greek or Hebrew lexical form which that word's Key number represents.

7. Search for a Greek or Hebrew inflected form. If you select a word in a Greek or Hebrew tagged text, then hold down the option key while selecting some resource from the Resource palette, Accordance will search for that particular inflected form, rather than for any form of the word.

8. Duplicate a Workspace tab. If you option drag a workspace tab, it will be duplicated in the current workspace or in another workspace (depending on where you drag it).

9. Duplicate a diagram element. You can also option-drag selected items in the Diagram window to create a copy of them.

10. Search for an exact verse reference. If you select a verse reference in a Bible text pane and then option-select a tool from the Resource palette, Accordance will search for that exact verse reference rather than for any range of verses containing that reference.

For more options available to you through the option-key, be sure to check out the Reference section of the Accordance Help. You'll find every conceivable modifier key combination in the section on "Keyboard shortcuts."
