NIV11 Now Available

NIV11-cover-sm Yesterday, I mentioned something old by noting the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. Today, I'm pleased to mention something new: namely, the release of the 2011 edition of the New International Version.

Recognizing that the work of Bible translation is never done, the translators of the New International Version have been working to update the translation ever since its publication in 1978. The revision of 1984 became a best-seller, while the revision of 2005—published separately as the TNIV—never gained widespread acceptance. This new 2011 revision of the NIV "builds on both the original NIV and the TNlV and represents the latest effort of the committee to articulate God’s unchanging Word in the way the original authors might have said it had they been speaking in English to the global English-speaking audience today" (from the Translators' Preface).

In an effort to avoid competing revisions, the 2011 update to the NIV will now be sold in place of the 1984 edition. However, Accordance users who already own the 1984 NIV module will be able to view it in parallel with the new NIV11 module and use the compare texts feature to highlight differences between the two. The NIV11 also includes a Notes module containing the Translators' Preface, footnotes, and the NIV Cross Reference System.

Accordance users who already own the NIV can add the NIV11 at a reduced price, and those who purchased the NIV this year can enjoy even more of a price break. The NIV11 is also today's featured Bible in our Bible A Day Sale, so everyone can enjoy a generous discount by getting today's coupon code from our Facebook and Twitter pages. Just be sure to act today.
