When it comes to study Bibles, English language readers have an embarrassment of riches for which to be thankful. In recent years, I’ve noticed a trend from study Bibles for general audiences (such as the Thompson-Chain or NIV Study Bible) to ones that meet particular purposes (the Apologetics or Archaeological Study Bible) or reflect specific interpretations, such as the Reformation Study Bible.

Reformation SB 2_120 With the NIV Study Bible, the most popular study Bible of the previous generation of study Bibles, the second edition was universally thought to be superior to the first. If a Bible reader is willing to be patient, there will eventually be a revision or later edition that improves upon the first edition’s foundation.

Thus, we are pleased to announce the completely revised 2015 edition of the Reformation Study Bible.

I had a user write to me privately just in the last 24 hours or so lamenting the fact that the first edition of the Reformation Study Bible did not have as many study notes as this user would have liked. Well, that should not be a concern any longer!

The new 2015 edition of the Reformation Study Bible expands upon the original with a total of 20,000 new, revised or expanded study notes, now totaling well over a million words of commentary from the Reformed tradition!

The 2015 Reformation Study Bible builds on the first edition with more theological notes from general editor R. C. Sproul and an international committee of 75 theologians. In addition to study notes, 70 topical articles are included covering everything from Antinomianism to the Will of God. Covering two millennia of church history, 10 Creeds, Confessions and Catechisms are included as well. In this edition you’ll also discover 16 new full-color maps that can also be used in a variety of teaching and preaching settings.

Although the print edition of the 2015 Reformation Study Bible comes with the English Standard Version (a translation already included in every Accordance Collection), as with any study Bible in Accordance, these study notes can be paired with the user’s translation of choice or even with Greek and Hebrew texts. Because the 2015 Reformation Study Bible does not replace the 2005 edition, both editions can even be placed in parallel with each other and scrolled in sync together.
