July 25, 2013 - Darin Allen — You might have noticed that our commenting system looks a little different today. We just switched over to using Disqus, an elegant commenting format that allows for profile pictures, commenting threads/replies, and more. All of our earlier comments have been preserved at the bottom of their respective blog posts under a section called "Archived Comments." We encourage you to create a Disqus account and join the conversation. You can add a short bio for other members to see and also an Avatar, or profile picture. < > To leave a ...

Digital Celluloid to Replace Cellophane

July 25, 2013 - David Lang — In Tuesday’s post, Darin announced the release of five visually rich books by Rose Publishing: the Rose Guide to End-Times Prophecy, Rose Bible Overview, Rose Deluxe Then and Now Bible Maps, Rose Guide to the Tabernacle, and Rose Guide to the Temple. All of these books are packed with high quality visuals and extremely helpful information, but the last two I mentioned presented a bit of a challenge. You see, the print versions of these books use clear cellophane pages to create maps and reconstructions which can be “changed” simply by ...

New Releases from Rose Publishing

July 23, 2013 - Darin Allen — We are excited to announce the release of five new titles from Rose Publishing. Rose’s slogan is “Bible topics explained visually,” and that is a fitting description. Each of the five titles we are releasing are filled with colorful illustrations, maps, charts, diagrams, and other helpful visual aids. If you are wondering whether or not these Rose titles are for you, ask yourself three questions: 1) Are you a visual learner? Many of us learn best when visual aids are used to supplement the text. The new Rose titles are packed with ...

Using the MT-LXX Parallel, Part 2

July 22, 2013 - David Lang — In a previous post, I introduced you to the MT-LXX Parallel, a specialized Reference tool which offers a word-by-word comparison of the Hebrew Bible and the Greek Septuagint. In that post, I showed how to use the MERGE command to piggyback off a search of the tagged Hebrew Bible and tagged Greek Septuagint. This allowed us to search the Hebrew Bible for every occurrence of the lexical form tselem ("image")—no matter what its inflected form—and to see those results displayed in the MT-LXX parallel. We then searched the tagged Septuagint for ...

Using the MT-LXX Parallel

July 09, 2013 - David Lang — When you display the Hebrew Bible and Greek Septuagint in parallel panes of a Search tab, the parallel verses are displayed side-by-side, but it is not immediately apparent which Hebrew word a particular Greek word is translating. For example, in Genesis 1:1, the Greek word ouranon corresponds to the Hebrew word Shamaim. I can see that by dragging my cursor over each word in the Hebrew and Greek to find out which words mean “heaven,” but other than that, there is no easy way to see the relationships between these two texts. That’s ...

Accordance to Keynote, Part 2

July 01, 2013 - David Lang — In my previous post, I talked about the Keynote presentation I'm producing to teach a Sunday School class on "Understanding the Old Testament." In that post, I surveyed the Accordance resources I am mining for the content of my Keynote slides. In this post, I want to explain the techniques I use to get Bible text out of Accordance and into Keynote. Whenever I want to copy some Bible text to paste into Keynote, I do not use the standard Copy command in Accordance. Instead, I use the Copy As Citation command in the Accordance Edit menu. The ...
