Thanks for this; it is so true and so helpful. I do hope that lots of users who are considering learning Hebrew see it. I know very little Hebrew but the little I know l learnt from this book. I had recommneded several times on the Forums but with no response. That could be for many reasons! But I felt a little embarrassed that I was recomending such a 'simple' book which might be somewhat frowned upon by the real scholars! Thanks for this particular blog. Appreciate seeing all the New Releases so condensely shown as you have now done,

@Dustin - Dr. Rex Koivisto of Multnomah University is doing the diagramming. He also does the morph tagging for the majority of our Greek texts.

However, I do see that someone could use this inappropriately by going to these diagrams first before wrestling with the text.  But that is also true of commentaries - they make good conversation partners but are dangerous if they supplant the text itself.

I would just like to request that you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE consider improving the Timeline, graphs, & charts to look more like iWorks' (PLEASE!!!!). Otherwise, this is the Bible program I'm going to be using for years (GOD-willling) to come!!!!

The scroll bars only appear on the popover Instant Details, and only when needed. Its contents do not change when you move the mouse. You access this with an option-click or a click-and hold on a word.

The detached and floating Instant Details does not have scrollbars since you can resize it. You freeze the contents by pressing shift. It behaves very much like the old Instant Details used to.

You have reduced BDAG to $119.99 and HALOT to $139.99, which if you bought them together comes to $259.99. But your combo offer on these is priced at $299.99 (tagged with “Save with theBDAG/HALOT Bundle”) which is a little contradictory. 

Perhaps it is a little cheeky of me to ask, but could a similar effort be made on this bundle to reintroduce a real saving? As an example, a competitor software product has the same bundle at $212.

Congratulations on securing "official" approval from Apple!

There are LOTS of answers to this question, but a tagged text is the quickest way to demonstrate to someone the advantage of Bible software. This is the kind of functionality that I don't believe we'll ever see on the Kindle or other mainstream ebook platforms.

Everyone who owns Accordance is spoiled.  Thank you for all the resources you offer and for the increasing number of them.  I am not a scholar, an academic, or a preacher.  Accordance, however, makes it possible for me to not only get answers to my own questions, but also to have more to offer our Sunday school students.  Thanks, thanks, thanks to all of you.  (And thanks for the blog, too!)

We do try to price our products competitively, but I realize that we won't be able to meet everyone's needs. You know... the parts where it says "The laborer is worthy of his wages" and "You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain." 

I honestly don't know what the Accordance folks would say to something like this... but rather than accuse them of greed, why don't you ask them if they have a way of working with you on purchasing the product?

Since you're looking at Accordance, it's probably safe to assume you're a Mac user already. And if you compare the price of Accordance to that of their familiar competition... I think it's *very* reasonably priced for a comparable package.

It just seems very unnecessary, and mean, to say what you've said. I hope you get things figured out.

One can only conclude that Biblica does not want us to be able to make easy comparisons of these three versions!

Since the links don't (won't?) exist to the Church Fathers, is there an easy method to get from these modules to the church fathers? For instance, at 22 seconds in the video there is a reference to ambrose, athansius, etc. Could I highlight that and amplify to the church fathers to take me to the reference?

Is that an omission or licensing issue?

Or am I too much of a boofhead to figure it out?

@Brian: NICOT is underway and making good progress. We don't have any specifics on a release date at this time, though.

Regarding pics: I understand that it's a lot more work, but I'll check out your suggestion of the podcasts first before I hold my peace...

Regarding the UI: I'm beginning to see what your saying about Apple's massive overhaul, but truth be told: AS MUCH AS I LOVEEEEEE THE CAPABILITY OF ACCORDANCE (and believe me you I do fully enjoy the powerhouse-capabilities) I SIMPLY DO NOTTTTT LIKE LOOKING AT IT, and esp. over the long periods of time that I'm constantly using it!!!!!

The look of A. hasn't changed much over the years, except for incremental updates.

As for adding more visuals to the product pages, with many hundreds of products, that's an awful lot of work for us, and bandwidth for the user to load. We do post a screenshot of each module, and anyway, modules of the same type work in the same way. There are podcasts illustrating the use of many module types.

How about adding the same (videos & pictures) to each module post, so that I can get a better look at how it works, Accordance's way?

Second, I also agree with others who've posted in the forums about the current UI...how about updating Accordance to look more like a Lion app vs. something out of 2000? Start first with the Graphical Construct Window (like of Apple's Numbers and Keynote apps with there 3D experience).

With respect to getting the images out of Accordance, I saw no loss in quality using either copy/paste or Save as Jpeg.

As for the value of the Accordance edition, I think you'll find that Accordance makes it extremely easy to browse and search the entire collection. The text of each PowerPoint slide description is included with each image, so you can easily find images by a variety of search criteria, or just browse the photos and read about what you're looking at.

1) The standard edition of these images is delivered on 2 DVDS - this release is 1.4 GBs. This makes it sound as if much picture quality was lost in this process, even if taking into account any included powerpoints on the dvds.

2) When you save one of these pictures from acc. will it then save the original JPEG file or would it be a "remade" and re-compressed picture with additional artifacts?

Considering that the acc. edition is 50$  more than the raw images, this would be a really steep price just for the convenience of having them in accordance,if it also comes with these problems.

For some reason when I open the BHS on my iPhone in Accordance, it only has Genesis. And I don't have the LXX at all.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, and it's the same.

JBL is indeed a treasure trove of information, regardless of one's theological persuasions. 

And since I have the volumes for 2007-2010 in PDF form in DEVONthink, I won't bother you about updates to the Accordance module for at least a little while.

(a) The UI looks identical to 8 - both being: old and dated, dull, an not very attractive at all...seems time to hire an actual graphical designer.

(b) Zones looks like a cluttered mess, esp. for laptops (interesting idea, but I don't think it's well executed).

(c) Mostly though, OakTree, I was looking forward to having REAL "cosmetic improvements" this time around, in order to bring it up to speed as a MODERN looking Mac app. Hopeful, eventually, soon you'll actually "update" the look by adding cool Core Image & Core Animation effects-features to Accordance.

P.S. Is Accordance 64-bit?

it's important that you get in touch immediately with hendrickson and get their corrected release of the talmud translations that properly attributes the authorship of the tractate translations to the appropriate parties. my translation of hullin is part of that and i rightfully insist that i be credited with authorship wherever the text is used, including your modules.

While the Mishnah is in Hebrew, the Gemara is mostly in Aramaic (except for scriptural citations and the baraitot). (The Gemara is a commentary on the Mishnah. The Mishnah + the Gemarah = the Talmud.)

How about daily bible Reading Plans?

Now the trouble is, this Accordance hack is not the right way to go about it. If I search for Son of Adam, Accordance still gives me Lk 3:38, but the Google generation expect to get Ge 4:25 and 5:3 as well, unless it is in double quotes.

I think you need to actually provide two full blown different parsing regimes, switchable in preferences - the Google one, and the one you like. Personally I want the Google one, because I do so many Google searches, this is just how I think now.

As we've said many times here and in other places, Mellel is our Mac word processor of choice. It is very inexpensive, and is the only one which properly handles RTL scripts (Hebrew, etc.).

I'm sure this is already on your radar, but I would love to see Apple's Pages added to the list of word processors that'll post bib info to the footnotes.  Personally, I'm just tired of Word and am making the switch to Pages.  I know the majority still uses Word, but my guess is that as more people discover Pages, they'll make the switch as well.

I should have used the "absent without leave" definition, which would have worked perfectly.

I was one of those who was slowly going blind from scanning the small print looking for the relevant information. I always resisted looking at BDB because of this if I could afford to, but now I'll have another resource to use happily!

After the initial 8.3 update, I've been making a lot more links to other tools and phrases within tools. This is definitely one of my favorite updates to Accordance in 8.3

Thanks a bunch that makes sense now, that is actually pretty cool. Is there any way to make it search for content in the recycled window rather than opening a new window if it cannot find the lexical entry?

As I was watching the files names wizzing by I thought I saw the name "Helen" in one of the last names. Are you sneaking something on my drive? :)

The triple-click will only do what you describe when a different field is being used. It will first try to find the word as an Entry but if that fails it will look in the Content for that language. It will open the second window only if it needs a different field. If it finds both words as entries, I do not think a second woindow will open (if you leave the recycling on).
