Meet Jeremy Archer:
It
was only a few years ago that a friend of mine offered me his "old" Mac
when he purchased a new one. As a long-time Windows user and
professional network administrator the idea seemed pretty silly to me,
but I thought that it might be a nice "toy" for my wife. She
never did get to spend very much time using that computer. Soon,
"her" computer became "my" computer and I began searching for native
Mac applications to replace my Windows software.
Bible software
was a big deal for me. I was working on completing a degree in
Biblical studies and needed appropriate software to assist me in that
work. I had been using a few different Windows applications for
several years so switching didn't excite me. At the
recommendation of a friend I downloaded the demo version of Accordance
and eventually purchased the Starter Collection thinking that I would
use it for my "simple" research that didn't require the power of my
Windows applications. As my Accordance experience grew and grew I
found myself clicking the Virtual PC icon less and less. It
wasn't long before I highlighted my Virtual PC Windows file and pressed
command-backspace.
I haven't looked back. Accordance is a
joy to use. I don't use computers for their own sake and I don't
use Accordance for Accordance's sake. I use it to study God's
Word and no application does this better than Accordance.
My
wife, Shannon, and I live in Minneapolis, MN and have a young son and
daughter - Josiah (3) and Tyndale (2). We worship at Bethlehem
Baptist Church not far from our home. I am presently teaching
through the Gospel of Matthew with our shepherd group.
Meet William T. McVay:I
began using Accordance 5 in 2003 after seeing Helen Brown and David
Lang demonstrate it at MacWorld. I had used a Macintosh for ten years
in a corporate engineering department and had also used MacBible and
WordSearch. These programs were good for their day at basic word and
reference search. In Accordance I found an integrated replacement for
my entire Bible study library and a good supplement to my church
history library.
I am not a professional minister or theologian.
This probably makes me a little different from some other Accordance
trainers. By schooling I am a scientist and a linguist. By professional
experience I have been an engineer, engineering manager and small
businessman. I began my Mac-based business after Apple introduced Mac
OS X.
Ever since I first used a New American Standard study
Bible with its translation notes in high school I have sought out
original language texts to get inside the translator’s head. I also
developed an interest in church history. Partly for apologetic
purposes, I have studied textual criticism and the history of
manuscript transmission. The long consistency of Biblical texts and the
self-correcting aspect of hand copying fascinate me. Manuscript history
shows God’s faithfulness and the continuing integrity of His Word.
Those
who know Accordance modules can see how my interests gained traction.
It has great analysis, original language support, and integrated
reference works in all my interest areas. Accordance gives me a quick
handle on unfamiliar words and grammatical details so I can move on to
interpretive reasoning. Accordance has a rich collection of manuscript
transcriptions and apparatus. It has the texts of the Greek and Latin
church fathers and important historical works.
I currently
live in Hidden Valley Lake, California, with my wife, Jamie, and our
eight children, seven cats, and two tortoises. I enjoy helping my own
children grow in knowledge, and most have professed personal faith in
Christ. The cats and tortoises are adopted. We are members of
Middletown Bible Church. My business, Putah Creek Development, is a
certified Apple Consultancy with emphases on business workflows,
creative and ministry professional software, and genealogy. In addition
to teaching and selling Accordance, I specialize in Daylite, Billings,
Merlin, Final Cut, Logic, and Reunion from Oregon and Nevada to the San
Francisco Bay."
