Mistranslation of φως

I'm finding that in Pseud-T, all occurrences of φως are bringing up the gloss "man, mighty one", and when one searches the lexical form, "man, mighty one" is also shown.

It's correct here. I think you have a mismatch between the gloss files and your modules. You need to get the updated texts on the Primary 8.1 DVD.

If you have the Liddell-Scott intermediate dictionary, you will see that there is an entry for ΦΏΣ, which means "man".

 

The entry says:

 

ΦΏΣ, gen. φωτός, ὁ: dual φῶτε, φωτοῖν: pl. φῶτες, φωτῶν, φωσί: used by Poets, just like ἀνήρ, a man, Hom., Trag.

II. a man, as opp. to a woman, Od., Soph.; δὔ οἰκτρὼ φῶτε, of a man and his wife, Eur.

III. a man, opp. to a god, Il., Aesch.

 

It is a different word from the entry that comes next to it:

 

φῶς, τό, contr. for φάος, light, q.v.

 

However, you are right that there are problems in PSEUD-T: I am afraid that some errors crept in a recent update, that removed a few correct quotations of ΦΏΣ.
