unlink dropbox

As a part of my user not saga (tragedy considering lost work/time) I deleted my notes in drop box to see if that would remedy the issue. Now that I've restored my notes with an older set, Accordance keeps trying to sync and is deleting my notes all over again. How do I unlink with drop box?

It's in the preferences.

Note that by removing them from your remote Dropbox, the desktop app is just trying to make the local state of your user notes match what is stored in your remote Dropbox folder. In the future if you have an issue with a locally installed user file (user note, user tool, or highlights) and want to revert back to what you have stored in your Dropbox please unlink from Dropbox first, remove the offending file, and then link with Dropbox and sync. This will install the most recent remotely stored Dropbox version.

Anthony – I've had all kinds of problems with DropBox sync and won't try it again until I get word here that it's working for everyone. It's not just you.

Yeah. I'm done with it. At least for accordance. It works well with files (except that it won't read the latest .Pages docs, but that's apple doing it's thing again). I just wish I would have known this earlier and I could have saved a few months worth of notes. Oh well.

That's unfortunate--did you lose content in your User Notes? And I assume you've checked for backups, whether on a local drive or in via right-clicking the file in Dropbox for "Previous versions"?

Yeah. It was a mess. Apparently I totally missed something with the dropbox sync thing. Somehow I missed the info that Accordance sync is disabled when you use dropbox. Honestly, it could have been in some sort of a dialogue box I clicked through without reading thoroughly enough. Anyway, for a while now I thought I was syncing my notes and wasn't. So I had two different notes files, one on the phone (and dropbox, I guess) and one on my computer. Then, a day or so ago, I noticed that something was wrong with my notes file on the desktop. Worked with the accordance peeps who said it was corrupted. Meanwhile, I'm trying to synch, and, probably, making things worse by changing this and deleting that. Long story short, a bit of lost work, but now I know. And maybe, just maybe, the awesome people at Accordance can fix my originally corrupted file. But, either way, it is what it is. No hard feelings. This is the price of technology, sometimes. And my own ignorance. Don't forget that!

The Dropbox sync is very unreliable in my experience.

Lest it seem that Dropbox syncing ever works, I'll go on record stating that I haven't had any troubles with it so far.

Actually, I just got off the phone with Billy from Tech Support. I was able to recover everything but the notes I had taken the morning of the problem (not too much!). Also, learned that the majority of drop box issues come from automatic syncing. So I'm using it for manual syncing. I've also learned that very large note files can sometimes cause issues (mine is pushing 2mb, apparently that's on the edge of large). This puts a lot of things together for me. When I updated to one of the 10.x versions, my whole notes file went crazy. Finally got it sorted out, but it was a mess. Now, with this most recent problem I can see that perhaps its something particular to my file. I'm going to split it up to OT NT and then, possibly also according to each book. In time, I suppose. No hard feelings. And, once again, Accordance has proven to be the KING of customer support! Billy contacted me preemptively. LOVE ACCORDANCE!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have also just lost some highly valued user tools and notes through the dropbox sync method. It's a long story...Accordance 10 upgrade, Mavericks to Yosemite upgrade, Time machine copy deleted to create a bootable clone, etc., etc. The end of the story is that I discovered this morning that some of valued and highly edited tools have disappeared. I promptly unlink dropbox on all devices. Here is my question. I do have my tools and notes on one iOS devices that failed to sync properly with dropbox (PTL) and I am wondering if there is anyway to extract/sync that back to the main accordance app for Mac?

Thanks Tommy

Tom,

If you were using Dropbox sync, you should be able to recover deleted files from the Dropbox web interface:

-If you haven't done so already, unlink your Accordance installations from Dropbox

-Go to Dropbox.com and sign in with your Dropbox credentials

-Navigate through the folders as follows: Apps>Dropbox>User Tools

-Click on the "..." button near the upper right-next to the "upload" button--and choose "Show Deleted Files"; deleted files will appear in grey in the list

-Right-click (or control-click, or two-finger click since you are on a Mac) on the name of the file and choose "Restore"

-For added safety/backup, you may want to download a copy as a further backup

-Repeat for all needed deleted files in both the User Tools and User Notes folders

-If you relink Dropbox in Accordance, the files should resync back into your Accordance installation(s)

EDIT: I just read your post through again. Given that you have copies of the tools on an iOS device, I would wait to resync (although you might want to restore and download) until you have an answer to the question about moving notes and tools from an iOS device back to a Mac.

Another small but significant detail that I omitted is that my sync to dropbox for some reason never did complete correctly that I'm aware of. I will however confirm this when I get an opportunity.

I checked and the lost tools never made it onto dropbox in the first place. I just recently upgraded from Acc 9 and I had these tools in a Folder/Group within my tools. For some reasons it appears like Acc 10 doesn't recognize groups (or than I don't understand it) and didn't sync those within this folder.
