Citing Sources

Hello, Everyone!

I'm a student (almost done, though!), and I regularly need to cite my sources in various papers, etc. I know that one can use the "About this text" feature to copy bibliographic information to the clipboard, and then paste it into the document. This is great, except for one thing: formatting.

When the information gets copied over it's not in a bibliographic format at all, it's basically a carbon copy of the information format in the original "About this text" window. Don't get me wrong, it's great to be able to copy and paste and easily access the information in the first place, but it would be even better if I knew how to copy bibliographic information in, say, MLA format right from Accordance.

Does anyone know how to do this? Is it possible? Thanks for your help in advance!

Dan.

Dan,

It is not possible to copy it in a way that it is in a bibliographic format.

You know, one idea would be to get the bibliographic entries for all the modules you typically need them for and keep them in a User Tool for ready access. It might keep you from duplication that it seems you're doing.

We are planning better bibliographic citations of tools for a future rev.

amazing.

Helen, when would the next major revision of Accordance be going to launch?

When it's ready! And I'm not promising that this feature will be in it.

Well, Helen, whenever it comes the next revision will be welcome, and so will the improved bibliographic tools--whether they come with the next revision or at a later date.

Is there any update or information on giving Accordance more robust bibiographic tools? I am finding frustration in my academic pursuits. Citing sources from Accordance is frustrating. I'd be happy for any helps or tips.

We are working on it and hope to have it later this year. Sorry for the frustrations, but this is not a simple matter.

Which resources are causing you frustration? We've offered suggestions on several different resources in the past, of which you can search the forum. But, if you give me an example I can be more specific.

Thanks

Hi Rick and Helen. Thank you so much for all of your hard work! Perhaps allowing bibliographic information to flow in to EndNote would be beneficial for many of us? I'm sure that's really hard to do but since I'm not a techie I thought I would at least throw it out there :-)

This really is an area that needs attention. After I graduate from Seminary I will no longer have easy access to the print versions in order to cite them. I will be completely dependent on citing the electronic versions in Accordance. We really need to come together and figure out a way to establish a page on the internet where each of the Accordance Modules has an example citation for everyone to share.

For Turabian,

Bibliography

Harris, Laird B. (1980). Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament[CD-ROM]. Accordance 7.4.2. Almonte Springs, FL: Oak Tree Software, Inc.

I am not sure how to do footnotes yet, but if I figure it out I will put it out here.

This is part of the issue. Currently both SBL and Turabian do not have a citation style that is updated to support resources like our modules. They are not technically a CD-ROM (with the exception of a few resources like WBC which are released on CD-ROM sets by the publisher).

I don't necessarily agree with the way you've cited TWOT. I would suggest to cite the resource as you would the print version, but cite us in the edition, i.e. "Accordance Electronic ed.". This seems to be the best way.

I'd agree with Rick's suggestion. Cite our source with the original "print" publisher and then add Accordance as a electronic edition. Be sure to include the version of the electronic text [available in the "About The Text" menu item].

I'd also like to suggest that users cite Accordance software in their lists of sources

Someone earlier mentioned this, and I just wanted to second it. I'd love a way to export my Accordance bibliographical information into Endnote, which I use constantly in seminary.

We're looking into the possibility of something like this.

Just another vote to see an external resource like this... just an endnote export of the modules currently available.

I know when I say "just" I'm talking about what is likely weeks of an individual hacking away with Perl, but even a partial list as a sample that others could contribute to would be fantastic!

Clearly people other then myself (I use Bookends that works seamlessly with Endnote) have already started this, is there any reason we couldn't just share our exports for someone/anyone to try to consolidate? I'd be happy to take a shot at it if others pitch in with content.

Mike, Thanks for the willingness to help, and your interest in a feature like this. We already have something in place, so do not need help. All of this is related to our current work on a bibliographic citation feature. We are actively working on it, and will report back on specifics when it is ready for release. :)

Hello!

I am wondering if there is a feature on Accordance to cite sources directly into SBL format? I am currently running version 10.4.3.2.

Specifically I would like to cite some things from BDAG and this would be really useful if it is a possibility.

Thanks!

The Bibliography settings in Preferences let you select SBL or Turabian, with or without footnotes. These apply when you use Copy as Citation.
