Unicode export

Dear friends,

normally for copying greek and hebrew passages I either used the Accordance-fonts or teh SP... fonts from the SBL. For practicle reasons I now inside our Theological Seminary had now had to change to unicode-export.

1. I don't like the standrad Unicode-font and use Cardo instead, formating the exported words and phrases new. Is there a possibility to have the copied text directly in Cardo after pasting them?

2. Exporting Hebrew to Unicode, the word order changes. Obviously the right to left writing direction only is applied to the letters inside the words, but not to the words within a phrase or a sentence. Is there a possibility to solve this?

It is not possible to set the Unicode export automatically to Cardo, sorry, though I agree that I really like that font. However, Mellel now lets you set your default font (that is our recommended word processor).

 

I do not understand the problem with word order. Accordance reverses both the word and character order. You must reverse the line direction to switch the verse reference to the right.

I now discovered that the word-order-problem is a word-for-Mac problem and now think about changing the word-processor.

Right, Rainer,

Google for something like Unicode Hebrew Macintosh and you should find more info on Microsoft's poor decision to stiff Unicode R2L, and what that means for you in terms of Word Processor.

Mellel is the best word processing program for working with Unicode Hebrew. I have exported Hebrew Unicode from a PC into Mellel and it looks just the way it should. The same text imported into Pages or any other Mac word processor has problems. In addition, Mellel supports OpenType fonts which make the placement of the vowels and accents in Hebrew much better. Mellel can export to rtf or MS Word format, so you can share with the PC users in your seminary.

I've really enjoyed Unicode export since it has been available and can't say enough about how I enjoy Mellel. I really appreciate the Oaksoft people making this export available.

I have been experimenting with NeoOfficeJ (the Mac version of OpenOffice). It is free and has many of the features of Microsoft Office plus it handles right to left languages well.

Thanks for the tip. I am trying it now, and it seems to work well, though is slow to open.
