As I understand it, the developers are doing their best to get the app retina-ready, which does require a lot of under-the-hood changes to our code. I understand that there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes (stuff that I wouldn't have any idea about). I was just trying to shed a bit more light on the subject for Joe; apologies if my post came across disappointed or accusatory! I'm thankful for all you do, and while it is annoying with a retina display, I find myself using the iOS app more anyway. I really want to switch back from Logos, but they've had retina support for awhile and I can't stand fuzzy text. It's just a massive job, and rewriting so much code without breaking it, takes a very long time. It is high priority, but it needs to be done properly. I just wish someone could tell me where things are at. After a year and a half almost of retina displays, does someone somewhere know how long it takes and where this falls on the product roadmap? Not saying I'd like a date because I know that paints you into a corner and you want to deliver the highest quality product possible, but a little more transparency would be nice... Bobblehead Joe Posted October 28, 2013 Share Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) My fear with it being 10.3 and no (apparent) concrete plans for retina support is that it's not going to be a version 10 feature at all and I'll be forced to pay for it in Version 11. I bought version 10 shortly after receiving my retina MacBook Pro because all my apps were being updated and I figured the update was imminent. I can tell you though the the 2013 rMBP is a screaming' machine, and worth every penny. I highly recommend it, even if you have to leave Accordance behind (like I've had to for the last year). While having the program updated for the retina display will be appreciated, I see no reason to not proceed with your MBP purchase or to leave Accordance behind until the update occurs. I'm a software developer, too, and I understand that this is not a simple task. But it's November 2013 now and I just bought a Retina MacBook Pro because my previous computer died. I find Accordance unusable out of the box. I find this inexcusable. There were signs for years that Apple was going to release retina displays on the Mac. Maybe I can tweak Accordance to make it passable, I'm not sure. But all I want to do is clean my eyeglasses every time I open it. With so much money invested in my Accordance library, I'm really upset about this. I find it inexcusable that 10.0 was released without this feature, in all honesty. Some may say this is a minor feature, but many of us are Mac users because we care about the little things. Having text rendered legibly is one of the things many of us care about. Daniel Francis Posted November 17, 2013 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Sam I feel for you, but I believe Accordance has been focusing on getting the Windows version out... and now that that is done I would bet Retina is top priority (I could be very wrong in that they may have hired many new programers to do the windows version, but i assumed the mac programmers were at least helping). I have tried it with other apps (like Masterwriter) and it works great. http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/08/retinize-any-mac-app-with-retinizer/ To make matters worse, the text in Accordance is MUCH fuzzier than the "non-retina" text in the link. That is what makes Accordance unusable for me and it seems like quite a few others... I hope this gets fixed soon. It reminds me of reading text on an old Apple IIe, the letters are so jagged. Best case scenario it's distracting, worst-case it makes my eyes hurt. It's just not "Mac-like" at all, like SamH said. Apple has excelled at getting their customers to "delight in the details", and fuzzy text is a major detail... You're not going to convince me it's "good enough". I bought Accordance 10 expecting the update in short order based off what I saw was a commitment to a quality user experience. As I've said before, my user experience has degraded to where I find it unusable (especially when compared to Logos) and open up a Accordance now only to check for updates in hopes that this has been addressed. When I'm at my desk I can work around this by using Accordance on an external monitor. I tried a couple of different font sizes. On the 13" obviously getting the most text on the screen is a priority. Maybe with larger text it appear less blurry. Frankly with two jobs (including full time pastor) and a young family I just have better things to spend my time on than trying every possible combination of font, color, and size. Neglecting paying customers to break into a new (likely less profitable per customer) market is infuriating if that was indeed the case. If I increase the font size greatly it helps a little, but I have resorted to looking things up online. Hebrew texts with all the diacritical marks are especially a mess. If I look at it I spend the whole time trying to squint the blurriness away. I am committed to Accordance (too much money has been invested to switch now) and I know this is top on your list, but I just wanted to say that it really is as bad as others on here have suggested. Please fix this soon or I fear Logos users (and maybe some Accordance users!) will begin making comparisons between Accordance's handling of retina displays and the rollout of healthcare.gov :-) You have a great product - let us see it! 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Garrett Posted December 2, 2013 Share Posted December 2, 2013 Just bought a new 15" rMBP on Black Friday. The temporary fix I had for a few minutes was to go into system preferences and increase the "resolution" to have the most space possible. It shrinks the user interface much, but it gets the text more readable once you resize it to "normal." That said, I only had that for a few minutes before I switched back, as I often have five programs open at once, and shrinking those down to such a degree hurt my eyes more than the fuzzy Accordance text. The other thing that seems to help is using sans serif fonts, but that can't be done in Accordance with Greek, as we're stuck with Helena, which otherwise I actually prefer to others such as Gentium.
