At $4000 each, a very expensive option. ModBooks have been around for a while, but they've always been expensive because the cost of the MacBook is included in the conversion.

 

Interestingly, OS X has always contained the handwriting recognition technology that was in the original Newton as if Apple considered creating this kind of full Mac tablet at one time, but they never did anything with it. And, of course, the iPad does not have native handwriting recognition.

 

Other than simply adding a touch screen so that a stylus or a finger can simulate some aspects of a mouse, applications have to be made to take advantage of a pressure-sensitive digitizer. This is where the ModBook would be lacking compared to Windows tablets which have been using this kind of technology for a decade.

 

For what it's worth, I'd much rather use a device like the ModBook with the Mac OS for even something like grading papers with a pen. But the Mac version of MS Word does not recognize pen input like Windows versions do. I do all my grading in Windows because of this--so I can write directly on the screen--but I invariably end up aggravated at some aspect of Windows in the process.

I use Upad which works well on my iPad. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/upad-lite/id409143694?mt=8 with a boxweave stylus. (I particularly like the shield to protect your palm.
