Derek Lewis Knox
I'm a fairly new user to Accordance 8. I'm trying to shed light on the phrase "ἐκ πίστεως εἰς πίστιν" in Rom. 1:17. I'd like to search for all occurrences of " ἐκ X εἰς X", where X can be any noun, as long as it is the same noun after both prepositions. I'd like to ignore the presence/absence of the article (I want the search to find all occurrences of the construction, irrespective of the article). Thanks! Helen Brown
It took me less than a minute to find four occurrences of this construct (without articles), and if I broaden it to allow more intervening words but only an article between the preposition and the noun I get one more hit. You will have to set this up in the Construct window, and it's beyond the scope of this answer (and rather late) to walk you through that. My first attempt was this: This finds the preposition, a noun, the second preposition and a noun which agrees in lemma, within up to 6 words. and my second was this: This widens the WITHIN but limits the words between the prepositions and the nouns to articles only. The Help: Advanced Searches describes the use of the Construct window. There are also video tutorials and podcasts available free on line, which will demonstrate how to use it. I hope this helps. Welcome to the Forums and Accordance. PS: I think this belongs in David's Yes You Can! Blog.
Derek Lewis Knox
Thank you very much! It worked just as intended. (I had never done a Construct search before.)
