Problems Searching

I have noticed from time to time a problem in doing Hebrew searches. I am wondering what I am doing wrong.

Here is my problem. In Genesis 7:23, I am trying to do a search on the noun living thing (הַיְק֣וּם). When I click on the word and do a lemma search it only does a search on the attached article rather than the noun even though the instant details shows that I am clicking on the noun. I am able to copy and paste the noun and the article but not do a search on the noun. I have found this to be the case several other times where Accordance would not search for the noun but only the article. What do I need to do in this case?

Hi, Calvin!

My searches seem to work just fine.

It sounds as if your cursor is over the article, rather than the stem.

There are a couple of things that may be causing you difficultly. First, enlarge your Hebrew font size so it is easier to choose part of the word. Then make sure you are actually selecting the word, rather than the article. Once you do the search, you'll be able to view the search criteria in the Search Entry box. See if it is correct. If it's not, you can just delete the article (e.g. הַ=) and run the search again.

Double-clicking a word with an attached article and choosing searching for lemma will search for the article and the word. You can see this in the Search Entry box. [though I did try your Gen. 7:23 example and it did just search for the article. Whaaat?] Try manually selecting just the word without the article and then doing the search. [Click and drag over the word.] When I used this method at Gen. 7:23, the search worked correctly.

Tim,

Thanks for the suggestion. What I found puzzling is that I could copy the word and article but searching only applied for whatever reason to just the article. Clicking and dragging over the word is the key.

I found that specific example puzzling, too, Calvin.

You might consider reporting it as an error and see if our programmers can track down the reason for it.

I definitely think this is a bug. We'll take a look.
