How full is too full on an iOS device?

Hey - I did a web search and the most common conclusion is that if your device is working well, don't worry about how full it is. Another proposed that Apple would build in space you couldn't fill if the blank space was necessary for device operation. (They don't do that with the computers, but then iOS ≠ Mac OS.) Nothing really definitive anywhere. Does anyone know anything for sure?

I can tell you, however, that my next iPad will have a 64G capacity! I'm freeing up a little more space on my iPad by compressing the music.

I am after a128 but over here they are $995 so it will have to wait till I visit the states. By then there may be a 256 version!!!! ;o) I am certainly pleased I went for the 64 version of my 4S!

My apps take up the most space, but there are some things I want to put on my iPad for which I just don't have room. 64G would enough, though.

Surely I won't full it all up? At least iOS doesn't take up 16G all by itself (like the MS tablet OS).
