A tale of two companies.

Accordance and another company both have sales on Barclay's The New Daily Study Bible: New Testament, the other company has discounts that are minimally more off than Accordance's but the other company charges significant price more as their regular price. Accordance is a better value. and in my mind a company that is caring more about people by offering the same product at a better price every day. I am not saying Accordance is always the best deal but I am tried of hearing how much more valuable the other software is, but Accordance is fast, more affordable and in no way a second class software. With the soon to be released Windows version I am happy that more people will get a chance to use Accordance. I am simply writing this [edit] post to try to be a word of encouragement to the hard working people at accordance and say I appreciate their products and they value they offer. In all fairness I must say I own the NDSB in the other software bought at a pre pub price which is what they are selling it for on sale. Had it been available at the time from accordance I would have gladly paid the couple extra dollars to have it in Accordance. But keep in mind when both are at their regularly price, it will cost you $20 more to get it in the other software and all I will ask is it really worth it??? I personally say no.

Dan,

It's also helpful to remember that price isn't everything. I'm shopping for bikes for my kids right now... and I'd be downright neglectful were I to buy the cheapest ones I could find. In the electronic, markup text world, not all "modules" are created equal, nor is the software capabilities.

When Accordance prepares a tool, consider all the different fields that are marked up, and the boolean search capabilities, etc. inherent in Accordance. In other words, the greater capability and functionality, and attention to detail.

In some cases, I'd happily pay more for a better result—kinda like ponying up for bikes that have name-brand brakes on the front and back wheels.

Or bikes that are more guaranteed to not give your kids an injury because of their quality construction!

Yes I will agree cheapest price is not always the best.. But Accordance is not an inferior product and the there is no tagging to other resources inside it i looked through a couple volumes, it's just not that well annotated a product. In this case I just meant there was no perceived added value for cross referencing other works like you may find with some more academic works to justify a higher price point in my mind. Safety in products and convince is good things but Accordance is fast and rock solid, this one product i mentioned is no way enhanced by the other software that i can think of. There is a third company that sells it far cheaper than either but I do not care for their software and would't say it is a good value in my mind. I just consider Accordance and the other software both top notch products, the other has some bells and whistles you do not find in Accordance but you are not using a program that at times feels very bloated, and as a default is filled with advertisements flooding a home page. I own many more resources in the other software but lament it can not be as stable [Edit] [in it's defence it has become much more stable with it last release, and it's version 5 is worlds better for me than it's 4 was] or quick as accordance is.

Hello Dan,

I am not saying Accordance is always the best deal but I am tried of hearing how much more valuable the other software is, but Accordance is fast...

I am sure I know the 'other software' you alluded to and in terms of being a 'theological' library I think that they fulfill their raison d'etre quite well . However, I would have to agree that 'other software' company's marketing department can be bit too zealous in regards to how they advertise themselves.

Yes, I agree that Accordance is fast(instantaneous actually) but come on Accordance has got a whole lot more going for it than simply the speed of it's searches!

...in no way a second class software.

Look because, Accordance sort of began as a way to bring some of Gramcord's modules and power to the Mac it caught the attention of scholars, professions, and specialist from day one! So, Accordance was never 2nd best to anyone in the scholarly community.

The funny thing though is that by necessity of adapting the Dos/Windows databases for use on a mac forced the founders of Accordance to create a software platform far more intuitive, flexible, and powerful than Gramcord had ever been. Don't get me wrong Gramcord's databases were great, but on the windows platform they were already restricted to the outdated 'Bible Companion' program when Gramcord for Windows was first released.

...Accordance is a better value. ..

Value is much like beauty it is all in the eye of the beholder.

Think about it Accordance was created for a very different audience than the other software company was. Accordance, started life as a professional morphological grammatical search engine while the other 'program' you mentioned started life as a library management program. Can, both these programs now perform some of the same task? Sure, but that does change the fact they continue to have fundamentally different philosophies of what constitutes Biblical Software.

A friend of mine encouraged me to buy into the 'other software' and as an e-reader/library it has worked out okay, but it has never been able to run the types of queries I needed most. And, the main reason for that is most of other program's users probably could care less about they types of things I need and want to use software to do. Accordance, on the other hand, does what need by the default!

and in my mind a company that is caring more about people.

Ask, any question about running a complicated Hebrew/Greek search and it will usually get answered with in the same day here on the Accordance forums. Often, a question will get answered with in a few minutes of being asked, amazing! People here already know how to run the queries I've been dreaming of!

With the soon to be released Windows version I am happy that more people will get a chance to use Accordance.

So, am I! Although, my wife is going to make me buy a Mac book pro next time around.

Anyway, I know a lot of people have been waiting for this day!

I suppose a lot of it is marketing, I get emails from the other company telling me that about deals that never before have happened that can't be missed. That their software is basically the only one worth using and that this offer can't be missed. They have in the past talked about having something exclusively that Accordance also has, and while I don;t want Accordance to go down the same path, I find it disheartening that a company that claims to be working by Christian principles, the CEO of that company has apparently wrote a book on small businesses that is quite good although the title makes me cringe, "Fire Someone Today: And Other Surprising Tactics for Making Your Business a Success." I am quite sure there are good reason's to let someone go at times, and the book title may be just a cold hard fact of business but for me it just sounds harsh. As I said I have not read the book, it may have wonderful advice and be relatively based on Christian ideals. Just when I see them charging far more for an item than otter companies I sigh and say why? A good example is the Revised English Bible, they have a system designed to recover production costs through initial sales before it is ever made, that is fine, but they charge $42 for it now…. Another company released it one day later and is charging $10 for it. Both companies had to do the same amount of work preparing the text, having the footnotes in place, but the one company has to charge on arm and leg while the smaller company is glad to sell it for a reasonable price, even accordance is selling the REB for less than half the price of that company (although Accordance does't have the translation notes). The smaller company is I am sure not loosing money and I don't fault Accordance for their price structure nor even the other company for theirs. But I just think it's sad the prices some companies charge and make a big deal about the great value and super sales they have. And I realize complaining he is pointless, but my main reason for starting this thread was to try to encourage Accordance and printout that their software is a bargain compared to some.

We do appreciate the positive endorsements, but we really prefer not to allow these forums to be used to criticize other software companies. The Accordance forums are for discussions about Accordance. Please keep that in mind.

My apologies and you are quite right Accordance has enough good to say about it without bad mouthing any other company. I had initially wanted to point out your regular price for the DSB NT was cheaper and it was a bargain now. I will admit I can get a bit over enthusiastic when it comes to some subjects.
