Ugaritic Data Bank tool

Is there a "how-to" document that explains how to search in the UDB? For example, if I wanted to find KTU 1.4, column IV, line 4 (for example), how would I input this in the UDB module, and under what search key?

Also, who is the "go-to" person at Accordance for help with the UDB?

Thanks!

Great question! It took me a few minutes as I am not as familiar with this module (not knowing ugaritic), but I also sent this to Dr. Kang who does know the module well.

One way is to use the search shown here:

Note that if you search each field separately, within an article, you find all the column IV. Also to find KTU 1.4 you must enter KTU 1 * 4 as in a tool this is the only way you can search for the period inside the number.

A better way is to set the range in the browser like this:

Now it finds just the one line you were looking for.

I guess I'm "Dr. Ugaritic" around these parts!

Helen's suggestions are pretty much what I would have recommended; you might additionally choose to change the Show: dropdown to "Add Titles" to make the most relevant portion of the text appear.

Note that the tool includes a brief "Introduction" (easy to find in the Browser) which is important to read to understand the philosophy of the edition, the format of its presentation of the texts and the notes.

This past semester I've been doing translations from UDB into a User Tool and I've made links to UDB in it. At first the links I was making simply had the text number (e.g., 1 * 6), but this is two broad and didn't take me to the place I wanted to be in the text. So, I started making links to the UDB page number instead. This gets me very close to where I need to go so I don't have to scroll far to get there. Now, I would like to be able to create User Tool links that take me to text > column > line #. Is it possible to create a link to a tool to search in multiple fields? I know Accordance does that automatically when triple clicking on a word in an original language text to search in the given original language lexicon.
