joelmadasu
Is there a way to find all or most of the direct speech quotations through Hebrew construct search? If there is a way, can someone please post a screenshot or explain how to?
Robert Holmstedt
Yes, there are two ways. The first is to insert the "BeginSpeech" syntax label of the construct search (screenshot #1 below). The results will show a red flag at the beginning of each direct speech. However, if the speech consists of more than one clause, there is still only one flag at the beginning. So, if you want each clause demarcated, then insert a Clause (Independent, Speech Only); see screenshot #2 below. The first item of each speech clause will be highlighted in the results.
joelmadasu
Thank you Dr. Holmstedt! I am trying to find out if yeš is "substituted" for hayah. And "if it did," will it always be in a direct quotation? - is the main purpose of this search.
