JayDee
Hi, i tried to make a simpel vocabulary list with german translations of the words. -> I searched for all words * in NA27T and created a list with the Analyse-Tool and sorted by count down... Result: This gives me a list with the greek words but with english translation only. like: oJ the, who, which = 19867 .. etc. instead of the english translation here I would like to have the German translation. (like eg module: GNT Wörterbuch) In my Instant Detail Window I only get the German translations when I push the cmd-key.. How can I change this for my purpose? Thank you for helping me, Jan. Helen Brown
There is no way to bring in the definitions from your chosen dictionary to the list in the Analysis tab. It always uses the English glosses which we supply. The best I can suggest is to paste the list of lemmas, separated by commas, into the entry box of the dictionary, and set the display to Articles. JayDee
Thank you for your reply. Thats a real pitty. Why is this behavior? Is it cause Accordance is mainly for english studies or has it something to do with the license?
Helen Brown
It's because in this feature the program simply uses our own lists of words, which are supplied to all users. These "glosses" are very short, intended to cover the main meanings of all uses of a lemma. Pulling in short definitions from any dictionary the user chooses would be very complicated. An alternative would be for someone to accurately translate these word lists, no small task, and then we would still need to program a way to select a different list. JayDee
I would love to see Accordance become more and more international and would be willing to contribute. I bet there are others here willing to help (crowdsourcing). Is it just the 5421 word translations (NT Greek) or do U need to double and tripple translations for all 138158 words in the Greek NT ? Helen Brown
It is just the lemmas, but the Greek words file includes many more Greek words from the LXX, Pseudepigrapha, and all our other Greek texts.
Anon
It seems like a versatile feature that Accordance could adapt is a relative gloss list. That is, from the extant lexicons in Accordance a gloss list could be compiled from the entry and the tools respective gloss field. Then, not only is the gloss field relative to a tool under the user's discretion, but also with respect to language (as Accordance adds more multi-lingual tools, even perhaps a greek to greek gloss). Of course, the extant gloss list could serve as a default and as a base (especially for texts like the Peshitta which language respectively lacks a lexicon in Accordance).
