Anchor maps

Hi ya,

Just got AYBD (or ABD as it calls itself) last night. Nice.

I'm still reading introductory matter and I came across this :

The six-digit M.R. number applies to a grid system frequently used by professional archaeologists to pinpoint sites located in and around Israel and Jordan. These numbers should be used in conjunction with the map conveniently printed on the inside front cover of each ABD volume.

Are these maps, or map if its just the same one repeated inside each cover, included ?

There a tons of images and I have not far located it. I'm hindered by not knowing exactly what it looks like either I'm afraid, as I've not seen the print edition.

I see this also :

The latitude-longitude system works similarly and should be used in conjunction with the map printed on the inside back cover of each ABD volume.

So same question there too.

Thx

D

We were not given these maps from the inside covers. Not sure we could have handled them back then. ABD was a massive project to us at the time.

Understood. It was massive in all ways for all people involved by the look of it - the original publishers and yourselves.

A pity the images were not included - perhaps in the future.

But perhaps a workaround exists for those who also have the Acc atlas.

Am I right in assuming that the "Israel coordinates" that show up in the atlas are the same as the six-digit MR number mentioned above ? If so then one could use that atlas to locate the positions with either the MR number or the lattitude and longitude depending upon what is reported in the particular Anchor article.

Also is there a way to search for an MR or lattitude/longitude location in the atlas ? That would be a nice feature if its not there already.

Thx

Anchor is one of the few major resources I have duplicated in both Accordance and Logos... Logos doesn't have the maps either so I would guess Double Day may not of even thought about including them. But it would be nice to update the AYBD to include the maps if possible.

To answer my own question from above the MR numbers do indeed appear to be the Israel coordinates in the Atlas. This is very handy.
