Strange leading

Alistair

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a font issue, for example the use of Hebrew text (eg in Westcott's commentary) affects line spacing. The line that has the Hebrew text has a slightly bigger space above it (i.e. increased leading) than all the other lines that do not have the Hebrew Text.

I've tried using different display fonts but the problem is still there. The larger the display font, the more pronounced the problem.

Anyone else have this?

This is simply because we use a larger font size in Hebrew and scale it to the English font size. Otherwise the Hebrew looks tiny because of the space left above and below the characters for the vowel points and accents.

Aha! Mystery unveiled.

Thank you, Alistair, for raising this issue. I have been mystified by it as well.

Thank you, Helen, for the explanation!
