apekdechomai - Renn Bible Words vs. Keyed Texts

I'm not sure if this is an error or not but since it confused me perhaps it has/will confuse others. In Renn Bible Words, it says apekdechomai (Key G0553) is found in five places. However, when I do a key search in ESVS, KJVS, NAS95S and HCSBS it finds 8, 7, 14, and 8 hits respectively. None of these equals 5. I thought I'd report this just in case it is a bug somewhere but perhaps I'm overlooking something and it's not.

Here's how I think the discrepancy is accounted for. First, when Renn cites Romans 8:19ff, he is also including verses 23 and 25, so that makes seven occurrences in five "places." The one occurrence he doesn't list is 1 Peter 3:20, which is found in ESVS, NAS95S, and HCSBS, but not KJVS. This is because the Greek text behind the King James—the textus receptus—uses a different word there. Renn clearly must have been basing his numbers on the King James and textus receptus.

 

So the KJV has 7 occurrences in "five places," while modern translations based on the critical Greek text have eight occurrences. The last discrepancy to note is that your search in NAS95S lists 14 hits. That's because of the tagging philosophy behind the NAS95S. In that text, when a single Greek word is translated by more than one English word, they tag each English word with the Strong's number. Thus, NAS95S only has eight occurrences of the Greek word, but it returns 14 hits because of the double-tagging.
