User Tools

I am wanting to get some input from those of you who use "User Tools" to create new tools from scratch. Do you find it best to work right in Accordance? or do you first work in something like Pages 08 then import it from there into Accordance? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I work directly in Accordance. But my user tool needs are relatively simple. I use them mostly for exegetical notes and sermon ideas for each Sunday.

I am using it to import an entire book, complete with links and text drawn charts, then I am translating that book into Indonesian. There just doesn't seem to be a simple way to do this.

Links and text drawn charts are really pushing (beyond) the limits of the User Tool. I don't use User Tools much, but for starting from scratch, if I'm only doing English, I would definitely do it in a simple HTML WYSIWYG editor and then import.

I am pushing it to see what I can get from it, which may be why I have had some trouble. But we are really wanting to get a lot of Translation helps into the hands of Indonesians and if I am able to accomplish this through Accordance User Tools, then we will be able to use this as our official software program. We are really not wanting to outsource this project and create another program people have to run alongside their Bible Software. It will be awesome if I am able to do these all through the User Tools.

Is there a good HTML WYSIWYG out there to download, or is there one that I may already have? I am using Indonesian (same script as English) and Greek, would this still be the way to go?

Justin:

If this is your goal, I think you should give up trying to push user tools to do this. It is way beyond what they are intended for. We cannot reinvent every feature of word processing or desk-top publishing tools within Accordance. I do applaud your aim of making Accordance compatible tools available for this purpose. I just think that they need to be full tools, not user tools. Then you can add the images, as well as many more fields, internal links, etc., etc. I absolutely agree that it is not worth developing your own search engine just for this purpose.

This is no easy process, and I have no idea how it would be accomplished in your case. It takes us a long time to train our developers to convert all the kinds of etexts we receive into proper tools. I think the best way might be to collaborate with you so that you produce etexts that are marked up in such a way that they are relatively easy for us to convert to tools, rather that you doing that last step yourself.

We would need to discuss the logistics and financial implications of such an arrangement off-forum.

Sounds good! I will e-mail with my goals and we can see if something can be worked out.
