Installing on a 2nd Windows Machine

I'm a Windows user and have installed Accordance successfully on one machine and now want to install it onto a second. Is there a way for me to port all the downloaded books onto that second machine without having to re-download everything?

I can see that my content is primarily stored at "C:\ProgramData\Accordance" and secondarily at "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Accordance Files" (Windows 8.1 machine).

Ekkie, I believe the answer is "yes," so long as the file path is the same, but I am going to suggest you call technical support [(407) 339-0266, M-F from 9 AM-6 PM Eastern]. Several of our guys there work with Accordance for Windows regularly.

When I do my regular Backup job I include the following three folders

"%homepath%\Documents\Accordance Files"

"%homepath%\AppData\Local\Accordance"

"%programdata%\Accordance"

1. User Notes, Highlights, Workspaces,... (the only folder that get synchronized with dropbox)

2. Accordance Preferences (very helpful, because I don't want change all the accordance/library settings everytime I install windows)

3. Downloaded Modules

I already tested the restore after my last Windows reinstallation (installing Accordance and copying back the files).

If anyone knows any issues with that, please let us know.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Elijah, your tips worked like a charm. Prior to your response, I tried by restoring the first and the third folders you listed, without success. Once I saw your response, I copied over the second folder and it worked PERFECTLY!

I appreciate the Dropbox tip as well on the first folder. I assume you're doing a symbolic link? Now, is there a reason you don't also sync the 2nd folder? It appears to be a pretty small folder in size.

there is no option to include more folders in the sync with dropbox if that is whatyou mean. I actually don't use dropbox currently, because I only use one machine. I just backup those three folders.

It would be great if the settings would be included in the dropbox sync.

Oh... I see what you mean now. I didn't realize there was an actual "Dropbox sync" feature until now (still new to the platform). There is a way to manually ensure the second folder gets sync'd as well by using what is called "symbolic linking" in Windows. In essence, you would move those folders into Dropbox and create a symbolic link in the original location that points to the Dropbox location. It sounds like I'm just describing "shortcuts" but this is different. With symbolic links, Windows acts as if the folder still exists in its original location. Thus, the change is completely transparent to the Accordance application.

The symlink was a great idea. Thanks for the reminder, Ekkie.

Just a note. our developers have warned us about using symlinks for this purpose. I am not sure of the technical issues involved, but I guess the issue is that the system may break in future versions.

Just be aware.

Warning noted. It is true that symlinks introduce additional complexities, particularly if multiple machines are running in parallel, all with Accordance running and connected to the same Dropbox account.
