Sacra Pagina Series

Very interesting multi-volume commentaries have been released or will be soon.

I would like to suggest to add the Sacra Pagina Series, by Liturgical Press. The general editor is Daniel J. Harrington.

The webpage of the series is: http://www.litpress.org/Series.aspx?ID=14

The following info comes from the webpage:

This series presents fresh translations and modern expositions of all the books of the NewTestament. Written by an international team of Catholic biblical scholars, it is intended for biblicalprofessionals, graduate students, theologians, clergy, and religious educators. The volumes presentbasic introductory information and close exposition, with each author adopting a specific methodologywhile maintaining a focus on the issues raised by the New Testament compositions themselves.

The goal of Sacra Pagina is to provide sound, critical analysis without any loss ofsensitivity to religious meaning. This series is therefore catholic in two senses of the word: inclusive inits methods and perspectives, and shaped by the context of the Catholic tradition.

I am a happy user of the 4th Volume: The Gospel of John, by Francis J. Moloney. It is a fresh look at the Fourth Gospel, that traces the point of view of the implied reader, the one that is gradually shaped by the narrative while the Gospel is being read. The link to The Gospel of John is the following: http://www.litpress.org/Detail.aspx?ISBN=0814658067

Like the Pillar NT, The Sacra Pagina Series hasn't been completed yet, but it is approaching completion.

I can't speak for the whole series, but I agree that this particular volume is excellent.

In addition to the Sacra Pagina is the comparable series on the Hebrew Scriptures: Berit Olam

These would help in the broadening of the types of concerned and capable reflections on the text.

Excellent information. Thank you.

I would also support the addition of Sacra Pagina. The Matthew volume was required for one of my seminary courses shortly after it first came out, and I enjoyed it. My prof was very excited about the new series.

Had not heard Berit Olam, but it sounds very interesting, too.

I say that as a Protestant; interest is not limited to Roman Catholics. (That may already be evident here, but I don't know the denominational affiliations of the other posters)

One thing I enjoy about the Accordance community is that there is a wide perspective Here.

When I was pursuing training in the Christian Reformed Church while at Calvin Seminary my OT prof refered t the Berit Olam series.

Now I'm a catholic priest. What a journey.

I'm using the Sacra Pagina commentary on Acts this summer, and I'm really pleased with it, too. I know you've got more suggestions for commentary series than you can handle, but I hope some day you can add this one.

I would buy Sacra Pagina if it was available in Accordance.

I may add that the commentary on Acts would be especially welcome, since unfortunately it is not available in other commentaries available within Accordance, such as the WBC/NT or the NIGTC, or the Pillar. This leaves us with Hermeneia alone.

The Hermeneia commentary is usually focused on Form Criticism. That can be useful, too, but I feel that I need even more a commentary which is focused on a closer understanding of Greek, such as the NIGTC, or on the final form of the canonical text, such as Sacra Pagina.

I would buy this series, too. Besides the volume on Matthew and Acts, those on Gal, 1 Cor and Col/Eph are excellent, too.

I've heard great things about the commentary on Romans from Sacra Pagina and would definitely check it out if it were offered through Accordance.

Has there been any comment on whether or not the Sacra Pagina Series might be made available on Accordance? This series often offers a unique perspective.

Sacra Pagina: Me too! :)

(I'm currently reading the volume on John by Moloney. Would love to have it for Accordance.)
