Tabs Within a Workspace

I don't know if this is planned or not, but it is something I would very much like to be able to do.

In A9 we are able to have multiple tabs within a Zone, but I would like to be able to have multiple tabs within a Workspace as well. Does that make sense? I absolutely love the new Zones feature, however, I have found that there are times I'll be working when I want to explore in a given direction. At present I end up opening new tabs within a zone, but that ends up cluttering up my nicely arranged zones. I am also able to open a new workspace, but then I have multiple windows open. I would prefer to be able to have whole new tabs within my one workspace that can have zones within in them to be able to easily toggle back and forth between them.

Does that make sense?

I think tabs within workspaces within tabs would significantly increase visual clutter (e.g., having two sets of tabs in close proximity near the top of the workspace).

Why not use multiple workspace and let Expos

Except for Details windows you can have all your tabs in a single zone in a workspace. You can set this as your default, or just do it by dragging all the zones into the first one to add as tabs.

This doesn't accomplish what I'm asking. What I'm asking is to have a workspace with 2 or more tabs where in each tab are multiple zones.

For example (these are simply images I've used for other posts and only represent in concept what I would like to be able do):

I would want this to be one tab:

And this be a second tab:

The result is that these would be two tabs within one workspace.

The end result would be the following hierarchy of 'windows' from smallest to largest: pane(s) within a tab, tab(s) within a zone, zone(s) within a tab, and tab(s) within a workspace. Perhaps the 'tab(s) within a workspace' level would need to be called something else to avoid confusion.

Does that make sense?

it only makes sense now you explain that the tabs you are requesting are actually super-zones or something. I think people need to get used to the zones first without adding yet another level in the hierarchy. As JP suggested, use separate workspaces.

I believe this is going to continue to be a request. I'd like to see it myself--that is having tabs representing multiple zone sets within one workspace.

In another thread, someone brought up the issue of the atlas. This is the perfect example and an issue I've already run into. While I've totally embraced zones, some of the more graphic-centric modules--atlas, timeline, even the photoguide--often need a larger space than what a zone offers. It would be nice to be able to right-click on a zone--perhaps an atlas zone, for instance--and choose "Detach as separate tab in workspace."

I totally embrace the zones concept and wouldn't want to go back--even after a few weeks! However, I don't want to go back to multiple windows/workspaces either when I simply need a larger view of a particular module.

This idea needs to be seriously kicked around as a number of folks have brought it up, and I concur from my own experience that it's a valid need.
