eshane7
Ok, I have a unique problem. I'm about 89% sure it is indeed a bug, and not a simple oversight on my part. Though it could be. I spend a lot of time studying in the Spanish language. Today, I did a search, and the search totally ignored the accent mark that I put over the letter. Let me illustrate: A search for the word, "amo" which means owner, or director, with fuzzy turned off, and exact turned on, gave me words such as, "amó" which means to love in the past tense. I would think that with exact search, amó should be excluded from the search results. They are two very different words in Spanish. The accent is the only difference in writing. EDIT: Another example would be "él" - which means he, and "el" which means the in the masculine singular form. Helen Brown
I am not able to reproduce the problem. amo gets 88 hits and =amo gets 49. I am searching RVR95S. Which text are you searching, which version of Accordance and on what system?
Timothy Jenney
Part of the issue may be that we use the word "exact" for two different modifications to searches. The exact search, as opposed to the flex search, ignores all related words (plurals, different tenses of a verb, etc.). That is a different kind of search limitation from placing an equals sign (=) in front of a word [which is also called an exact search]. The equals sign instructs Accordance to match capitalization, breathing marks, and accents. For instance, =él will find only él, not el. The search él will find both él and el, as will the search el. Hope this helps!
eshane7
Thank you Dr. J! That probably was my problem. I'm going to quit posting in this bug swatters thing, because I keep swatting myself trying to get a bug! . Helen, for the record, I'm using Accordance 10, and was searching RV1909, RV1960, as well as the RVG (my module I pulled into Accordance). I usually cross check any problems with my module agaisnt the official modules. I think the problem was with the user, and not the program. . Appreciate the help.
Helen Brown
My bad for not picking up that you were not using the = sign which was our only exact search for many years. Kudos to Dr. J for the clarity.
