How are you using Zones?

I'm still trying to figure out how to best use the new Zones feature in A9. I thought it might help me and others if those of you who have a good handle on it could post some pictures. It seems like it will be very handy but so far I haven't come up with anything that works for me. If you can post a few pictures of your set ups it would really help. Thanks!

Here is my OT study workspace. I no longer have any floating windows open because on my 15" MBP they just don't fit to my liking. I amplify with triple clicks or with the menu. In lieu of the instant details window I leave open a text pane for the bible references to populate to. Since I am having trouble with my tied tabs saving between uses as well as changing focus in the bible text on long pericopes (both bugs previously reported) I have opted to use the search all function which populates as shown in the screen shots. Lastly, I have a comparative window that allow me to highlight english or hebrew and have the respective strongs text highlight. The left tabs are for word studies. I visually like 3 columns and always prefer the Biblical text in the center. I would like to tie the search all window the the bible text so that as I move verse to verse (my traditional study method) the search would automatically follow me allowing me quick access to other resources without having to have them open and tied. I would also like to include the information window in a workspace, not as a floating window.

This is what I've come up with for a good basic Bible Study layout. It's worked well. Kudos to the dev team for this feature, I love it!

The main upside for the use of Zones in my studies have been with the display of the Details Analysis Tabs.

Here is my NT workspace, only now in a Zone instead of two separate windows as in V8.

Now here is the Details with different analyses spread out in another Workspace Zone. I switch between them with cmd-`

For another option here is a Key Numbered Text Workspace.

And the details of that workspace.

All in all I am quiet pleased with different applications of the Zones feature, especially when it comes to viewing the details, and I'm sure I've only scratched the surface of the possibilities.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for posting the pictures. It definitely helps to see what others are doing. I did a little more work with mine tonight and will post a picture over the weekend. I'd still be interested in what others are doing with Zones so keep the pictures coming!

Here is my current zone set up. I'm still experimenting with zones but this seems to be working for me right now.

Question: How do you tie different zones together with your main zone ( text ) and, how do you tie different workspaces together.

I see screenshots that look like different workspaces, with zones, that are all tied to their main workspace text.

Help and, thanks ahead of time.

Rusty,

If I understand your question correctly I believe the answer is that if you right click (control click) on a tab a menu will pop up with a "Set Tab" option. If you click it, you can choose which other tab to "tie" the current tab to. I did that with the "BK Commentary" tab in my Tools zone to the "ESVS" tab in my English Texts zone. Now when I do something in one like scroll down to a verse, the other one follows along because the tabs are tied together.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Paul, got the tabs figured out, now trying to see if I can "set" two or more workspaces to track together.

Darryl has a set-up that is interesting, seems his Details and Analysis are in a separate "workspace", yet connected to his search in his main workspace.

wonderful thing, having these new abilities to discover.

Thanks again,

Here's a workspace I've set up. It is a test workspace to see how I like it and to experiment with to see what kind of configurations I can come up with. What is shown below is a configuration I've kept for a week or so and I think I like it. I use it particularly for reading Hebrew. In forum posts elsewhere I had expressed a desire to have the text stretch from the top of my screen to the bottom with other texts/tools to the side but not necessarily vertically aligned; A8 could not do this. A9, via zones, can!

As you can see, I don't have any palette's open. I simply triple click on words I need defined and HALOT is available in the adjoining zone (along with my other Heb lexicons all linked to HALOT). I also have the GBS text and Apparatus open so that I can glance at it from time to time to see if there is something I'd like to explore. In case there is, I also have LXX and TARG-T open and available if I need/want to look at them too.

Thanks to everyone for contributing to this thread! I'm preparing a podcast on how to use our new zones feature. This thread has been a great way to see what our users are already doing. Imagine what we'll come up with over the next year...

I love your green highlighting, Confusing. I think if I used that one I'd have a lot of green on the screen http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Thanks. :) I mainly use it in connection for passages I need to research more thoroughly and to add my findings to my user notes.
