New Accordance 9!

Just installed the new pre-release version 9 (I got a link). I have Accordance 8 installed only for a few months, but have used the program daily.

Thanks to the videos of Dr J (hello!) I have tried and used almost all possible in the program.

I am impressed by version 9. It looks cleaner and 'safer'. And all my settings were merged to the new version. I am studying already!

Thank you very much! Very well done!

I don't think so. I pre-ordered and have received no link but I am also quite anxious!

We're sending the first emails to those who ordered last week and early this week. We just cannot handle a huge surge at this time, so please be patient. From now on you should be getting your link within 36 hours of your ordr.

I just ordered, can't wait to try it out, when it's my turn how will I know? Is there a email sent to me? Trying to be patient :)

It was hard to find the password, although I received my link. Unfortunately, after my installation, Accordance 9 will not open. It says that it can not find my default Bible (NASB95), and I am totally lost. Fortunately, I wrote the password down, but it was really hard to find.

Here is a screen shot of what appears

Jonna: I cannot help tonight, but happy to do so as early as you like tomorrow.

Thanks, I can call as early as 7:30 or 8:00 Eastern if that works. I am going to try to reboot, and if that does not work, call it a night.

I can finally "open" Accordance 9. Aside from the NASB (my default Bible), my other Bibles and none of my Tools open. Accordance 8 is still "safe and sound".

I'm impressed with Accordance 9 (although what I'm really looking forward to is playing around with the new syntax modules when they become available). The zones idea is great (reminds me somewhat of Logos 4) and well implemented; this new feature really provides added flexibility with window arrangement. Although I suspect I'll begin to use zones on a regular basis, I appreciate being able to do things the old way without zones if I prefer.

Here are a few observations and a couple suggestions:

1. The new details icon, instead of the details button, is nice improvement. I like the ability to keep the details window visible as a zone in the workspace. If I remember correctly, in Accordance 8 we were able to open search details from tool search windows. Although I rarely did, I notice there is no such option now (the details icon only shows up in text search windows).

2. Resource palette now has sticky menus, thus eliminating the option to simply click a resource palette icon to open the preferred, or last used, resource in that category. The same is true with the add text, add reference tool, and add user notes icons. While many will probably appreciate this development, I miss the non-sticky menus. Perhaps this could be a preference option?

3. The parallels icon on the resource palette has moved (probably due to the elimination of the text groups and tool groups icons). To me, it looks out of place (perhaps a bit lonely?) surrounded by all those blue book icons in the tool section of the resource palette.

4. The new groups is a tremendous improvement. I appreciate being able to group resources together regardless of resource type. Now I can group together a couple Greek grammars, the GNT-T, and my own exegesis notes and search the whole group at once. I do hope in the future it will be possible to add User Notes, in addition to User Tools (which is now possible), to mixed groups.

5. A downside to the new way Accordance handles groups is that I can no longer open with a single click all the resources in a group I created. The new groups are all listed under the Search icon; opening a group opens a search window. I suppose a work around is to create a workspace with all the desired modules and save it as a favorite workspace.

6. The new context slider is much more convenient than the old system. I do wish, however, that the next/previous mark arrows would appear as soon as any context is added, regardless of the number of verses of context. Now, as in Accordance 8, the mark arrows only appear when context is set to all verses. Having mark arrows available when any context is shown would be helpful for quickly finding the next search hit. As it is, I may have to click the next verse arrow several times to find the next hit when I have a few verses of context being displayed for each hit.

7. Again, the whole zones idea is fantastic. So far, I haven't had any of the problems some other users have mentioned. I do wish, however, that the 3D map window for the Atlas could be opened as a zone rather than a new window. I'm not sure if the need for a 3D controls window has kept the developers from making this possible. Being able to have the 3D map view as a zone next to the 2D Atlas would be nice.

These are a few of my first impressions. Thanks for pushing out the upgrade a couple days early for those of us who pre-purchased it.

Just wanted to say that I am totally impressed with the software. Even before this update, I told my pastor's son (who is in training for seminary): you should buy a Mac just for Accorance. Accordance alone justifies Mac-ownership. With Accordance 9: MAPS look awesome! As I told Helen this morning, my MAPS never looked so good.

Just wanted to thank Helen for getting me up-and-running this morning. Somehow, all my permissions got scrambled, but now, I am up-and-running in Accordance 9. Technical support at Accordance is truly "above-and-beyond", and leaves the competition totally iN THE DUST. I will admit that I don't have any hebrew or greek training -- but I can't imagine that other software would compare favorably for seminary training.

Even before today, I encouraged the pastor's son to get a Mac for seminary -- just so that he could use Accordance. After today, I would say that the other programs wouldn't even be an option (if I were a seminary student).

Looking forward to the weekend in Dallas

A couple of comments below....

The details icon shows up in Reference tools.

The new groups are all listed under the Search icon; opening a group opens a search window. To open items within a Group you can double click on the individual Group folder in the Library window (we need to make this more discoverable).

Yes, to amplify to a Group you will need to make a favorite workspace with the items in that Group.

Thanks, Mike. I suspect the search details were only available for reference tools in previous versions of Accordance, but I just didn't notice.

Can't see any of the reviews for 9 on CNET Version Trackerhttp://www.accordancebible.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif

The reviews were written for 9.0.2. Since VersionTracker now lists 9.0.3, you have to set the popup See Reviews for: to All Versions.
