Coverdale Translation and The English Cathedral Psalter

Hi Rick,

I agree wholeheartedly that the 1662 is "the" BCP to have, with the 39 articles (and the rubrics!). The Act of Uniformity is important too (at the front of all the full prayerbooks). I would add at least the 1549 version with its shorter version of the articles

1552 was a significant edition as it became more reformed, then there was the 1559 revision under Elizabeth that introduced some significant shifts in language back towards 1549.

In a perfect world I would like to see all of these versions in a BCP module as each one has a significant place in the history of the Church of England. protestant theology and the Book of Common Prayer,

Of course, it is essential that one be able to compare the various editions, particularly those that have a great deal of conformity.

If you do think that common worship is appropriate, please put links to the lectionary. This is my biggest frustration that I look in a calendar to find the 'week' such as 2nd before lent and then to the lectionary to find the set readings, and then to a bible to find what the readings actually are! And don't forget times and seasons as well!

I suspect this will be a long way off!

;o)

Not sure if I am allowed to mention this but as to hymns, i use hymnquest which is an invaluable resource and a very specialist piece of software ( and i don't consider it a competitor as it has a very different focus).

A more ambitious project would be to produce an edition of the Anglican Breviary. The most difficult thing about the breviary is working out what to pray for each hour. It would be fantastic to be able to have an electronic edition that works all this out for me.

Rari,

While you are waiting you might be interested in the RC Breviary/Prayer of the Church in www. universalis.com (I did not know how to make a link as you did!)

I do hope I am allowed to 'advertise' that. I am open to 'correction' if that is not the case!

Kevin.

Rick and others--curious if a BCP and related-books module(s) is still in the pipeline? Or did it release and I missed it?

Just a little bump on this thread to note that this user would gladly use the BCP (especially 1979) in Accordance, if offered.

I hope all the requests for various editions of BCPs haven't derailed the project. I was just looking back over this thread and saw again that Rick posted a screenshot of the 1662 BCP. Here's to hoping something releases soon-ish. I think a lot of folks would get it.

And not to further add to the requests, but one really cool resource (that I don't think is available anywhere electronically?) would be Marion J. Hatchett's Commentary on the American Prayer Book, which is based on the 1979 BCP.

Any chance we might see a package with various Books of Common Prayer in the near future?

This got sidelined with other higher priorities, but I'll note it to discuss further options for the future.

We've got the 1662 BCP finished (still needs some minor edits) but are holding it to research a larger collection of resources and versions of the BCP.

Really pleased to have recently added the 1979 BCP to my Accordance collection. Thank you!

Would love to be able to make the comparisons with 1662 now, including the elusive Coverdale Psalms.

Is it scheduled for release soon please?

Many thanks,

Stephen

Apologies, this never got resurrected. I'll follow up on it soon.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks Rick - it would certainly be good to see the 1662 BCP this Autumn if at all possible.

I really appreciate all your hard work in the preparation of these great resources for Accordance.

Hello again Rick.

It's another year on - could I please put in another request for the release of the 1662 BCP? While research into other versions of BCP would indeed make a great package, the value of 1662 BCP in the UK and further afield would make this one an outstanding stand-alone resource.

Thank you for all your efforts in making Accordance the best program of its kind.

Five years on from the OP and its most encouraging original response, can I ask please if the 1662 BCP project is still in the pipeline, or has it irretrievably stalled?

My apologies for this project slipping away. When I first commented we were working from a PDF that we found online, and it seemed OK. But, it was a mess in terms of formatting, and there were questions on the source. And then we released the 1979 version, which seemed to satisfy some (but I understand not all). I looked at this again recently, and still could not find a better source text to work from. So, unless that changes, I'm not sure when we'll be able to work on this in light of other priorities.

Thank you for the update, Rick. It's a shame, of course, but I understand that there are always greater priorities than our own personal wishlists.

As it is in the public domain, I can instead make it a project to create a User Tool!

Happy for you to close comments on this thread.
