What is the best replacement for Kittel / TNDT. After knowing more about his life, I would like to replace the product.

The current scholarly standard is A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Early Christian Literature, now in its third edition. It's more expensive than the TDNT, but it's an excellent resource, with very thorough coverage of the vocabulary of the New Testament, the apostolic fathers, and other early writings (although some words from the Septuagint are not included).

I recommend the NIDNTT by Colin Brown or the abridged version if you on a budget. It is a theological lexicon similar to Kittel.

The good news is that Kittel served primarily as an editor as opposed to being author of the entire work. He wrote some articles, but most were written by others. All the longer articles are signed.
