Steve Loosley
In short, what I want to know is the following: is ABC always DEF in the LXX; and is HIJ always KLM in the LXX? I thought the following searches might help: 1) Find all instances of the Hebrew word ABC 2) Then, in the same set of verses in the LXX1, find any verses containing KLM. And then perform the following: 1) Find all instance of the Hebrew word HIJ 2) Then in the same set of verses in the LXX1, find any verses containing DEF There must be a way to do this; I just can't seem to get my brain around it. Thanks for your help!! (I tried to get the Unicode to post the Hebrew and Greek text, but it bombed. Sorry for the ABC stuff!) Shalom, -steve. Helen Brown
You can do what you are asking with the [CONTENTS] command: Search the BHS-W4 for: ABC Search the LXX1 for: [CONTENTS BHS-W4] KLM However, this only tells you that KLM is in the same verse as ABC, not that it is actually translating it. The best way to see word for word parallels is to buy the MT/LXX parallel which does line the words up next to each other. It allows you to search either or both tagged texts (you do need those as well) and MERGE the results into the MT/LXX to see exactly where ABC is or is not translated by KLM. Chapter 6 of the Grammatical Supplement PDF is devoted to the MT/LXX, and explains what it can do and how to do it.
Steve Loosley
Thanks Helen. I have the MT/LXX plus both tagged texts. I'll read a little in the Supplement and see if I can get some ideas. Thanks for your quick reply!! -steve.
