Crashing During Update of Bible Art Module

Hello Helen,

I have repeatedly attempted to download the Bible Art version 1.2 update, but the process always ends in Accordance unexpectedly quitting or crashing. Is this problem unique to me or have others reported this?

Thanks,

Ron

We thought that we had fixed this bug in Accordance 8.1.3. We will look at it again if you confirm that you are using the latest version.

I have Accordance 8.1.3.

I have this from Console: Possibly it will be of help.

1/22/09 3:26:48 PM com.apple.launchd[74] Warning ([0x0-0xdd0dd].com.OakTree.Accordance[1443]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault

Thank you again,

Ron

Edit: I have sent the crash reports so the programmers can determine the cause.

It may be something specific to Ron's setup, as I just downloaded and installed it without issue on my Mini running Accordance 8.1.3 under 10.5.6.

I have tried twice today to download the Bible Art Module. Both times the connection timed out. (The first time may be my fault; it may not have finished downloading before I had to put the computer to sleep for travel).

When I click "OK" on the time out message and try to download again, I get an error message (something like -109 "ChangeEffect"--that's not quite right, but close). If I click "OK" on that error message a "downloading" box will appear, then Accordance will crash.

EDIT: The third time proved the charm for me. I avoided doing anything else on the internet while it downloaded, and it installed fine.

For the record, this seems to be a somewhat intermittent bug, but we have been able to reproduce it. The good news is that, judging from Donald and Lorinda's experience, a bit of persistence seems to enable you to get the updated module. The even better news is that, for those that want to wait, the next free update of the program will have fixed this and (hopefully!) any future instability with downloading larger files.

Hello Helen, David, and Joel,

I just ran the updater and it functioned perfectly. Yesterday the process crashed the program six times - today, all is well. I didn't do anything differently. I suppose you are right, Joel; a bit of persistence paid off. If there is a problem, the crash reports I sent may help in isolating it. Thanks to all who contributed their comments to this thread.

Best regards,

Ron Webber

For the record, this seems to be a somewhat intermittent bug, but we have been able to reproduce it.

I have been able to reproduce it on three different Macs (2 intel, 1 PPC)*, all of which are running Leopard and wireless networks. I thought it was the Matthew Henry Commentary update, but perhaps it is the Bible Art update. Can't say for sure because I usually tried updating all modules when the updater crashed, and resorted to multiple updates afterwards.

I have been able to download the guilty module the second time around the first two happenings. Can't say about after the third happening, as the Bible Art module is still re-downloading.

[* It's a long story. The summary is that I bought a new MacBook [White, not Unibody] but since realized Apple has nothing equivalent to my trusty PowerBook G4 (think displays for a moment)... so I am going to return the MacBook. :( ]

We will very soon release another fix for the downloads of large files, with the next Accordance free upgrade.
