Dr. Nathan Parker
I've attached pictures of two graphical queries I have in Logos, & I was wondering if someone here could duplicate them for me in Accordance & send me the files to load into my program. I'm very new to the construct window in Accordance & if someone could send me the Accordance created versions of these two files, it'd really help me learn how the construct window works with a practical illustration from my other Bible program. I appreciate all of your help. Thanks in advance! Nathan
Robb B
Nathan, Wow. It's amazing you can even put constructs together in Logos with that confusing interface. I am really not sure what that even means, but here's my best guess at the second picture you uploaded. Set your search text to GNT-T with a search for Words. Then open a new construct window and recreate what I have posted in my screenshot below.

I really don't know what you are trying to do on the second query. http://screencast.com/t/XqbSu0B5z This query took about the same time to set up in both programs, although having a search both ways in Accordance was nice. I did not know how to exclude punctuation which may account for the difference of about 9 verses between the two searches. While there may be a way to send you a file and have you load it on your computer, I am not aware of how to do that especially working on the emulator. This one was easier in Accordance. here is the link: http://screencast.com/t/aEXvZ0iU John Fidel

I'm sure Accordance's will be much easier! I finally got the hang of Logos' after much studying on what it actually did. Thanks for your help on the construct! Much appreciated! This one was easier in Accordance. here is the link: http://screencast.com/t/aEXvZ0iU John Fidel Thank you so much (both of you) for all of your help on the constructs! And WOW! Actually putting them together on the emulator! I'm kind of glad you posted the screen captures instead of the actual files, because now I actually got to put the construct together myself & really learn the interface! Really easy to do! I was able to save the actual files as workspace study windows, & I will email them to Helen & have her upload them to the exchange for anyone who wishes to download them. Again, thank you for all of your work!
David Lang
John, I know you're trying to follow Nathan's first search, but there's a bit of redundancy in your construct. First, if you've specified that the participle is genitive, there is no need to specify that the following adjective, noun, pronoun, or verb each must be genitive. Just drag each part of speech into the column, click OK to dismiss each dialog box, then specify that the two words must agree in both number and case. In the INTER item, it would be quicker to select Infinitive in the Mood pop-up menu and then check the NOT checkbox to exclude it. Excluding any verbs which are NOT infinitive is essentially the same as excluding all verbs which are imperative, participle, indicative, subjunctive, or optative. Finally, there is no need to specify 1-10 words in the WITHIN item. Simply place a 10 in the first field of the WITHIN dialog box to specify a within of 1-10 words. The only time you need to use both fields is if you were to specify a WITHIN of 2 or more to 10. These are all little things, but they'll help you eliminate several steps in the process of building constructs. Here's how such a construct would look: Instead of "excluding punctuation," in Accordance you would simply open the More Options section of the Search window to which this construct is linked and choose Clause from the "Search within every" pop-up menu. Hope this helps.
David Lang
Robb, Just as all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares, all 2 aorists are aorists but not all aorists are 2 aorists. The GNT-T distinguishes 2aorists, but you don't HAVE to specify 2aorists to find them. In your construct, you selected both aorist and 2aorist for the infinitives, but you need only specify that they are aorist.

Dr. Nathan Parker
John, I know you're trying to follow Nathan's first search, but there's a bit of redundancy in your construct........ Thanks for your help on simplifying these constructs! I've updated mine to reflect them & will send copies of the files to Helen for posting on the exchange. Thanks for the help you've offered in making them even easier! Nathan

I have not looked at the detail, but was surprised that there would be any difference. If I make the Verb a participle for the second word I get the Rev 6.5 hit. Just curious. By the way, Accordance makes it easy to compare the two searches... very nice. John Fidel Edited October 9, 2007 by jfidel
Dr. Nathan Parker
I just now decided to revisit this old thread. I'm re-building these on my new Macs under Accordance 10. I sent the files over to Ken to see about getting them onto the Exchange. Thanks again for all your help!
