User Note Covering More than One Verse

I don't believe so. I remember trying several different ways to accomplish this a while back and there was no solution.

What I typically do is change the reference at the top to include the entire passage (it is editable) and then make it into a Scripture link. It's still only linked to the first verse of the section, but it gets the job done.

Though if someone knows of a better way to do this, I would be all ears.

This looks like it should be possible to some extent : file:///Applications/Accordance.app/Contents/Resources/Accordance%20Help/Default.htm#topics/05_dd/format_and_edit_text_of_notes.htm?Highlight=user%20notes. But the comments here indicate that if you have a multi-verse note that you should be able to search for a reference in that range and it will find it but in my test that doesn't work. I don't know if this is a bug or not. In addition you don't see this note listed against each of the verses when you rollover the note icon next to the verses, it only appears in ID when rolling over the icon for the first verse in the range. In the notes pane though rolling over the reference to the range (eg. Gen 1:1-5) shows the entire passage in ID. So it appears to work sort of in one direction. I also could not select a range of verses and then right click Edit User Note and have the range be the reference used for the note. But you can certainly modify the reference in edit mode.

thx

Hello Accordance admins / community - since it has been a while since these posts, I was wondering whether a specific feature / method exists now in Accordance 12 - multi-verse reference that crosses chapters. For example:

Scenario #1 - I'd like to make notes on a topic that references multiple verses / passages across the Bible (i.e. Genesis 17:14; Romans 2:25-29; Galatians 5:6; Galatians 6:15). This is akin to topical / systematic theology notes.
Scenario #2 - I'd like to make notes on a passage that spans multiple chapters within the same book (i.e. Matthew 5-7 Sermon on the Mount). This is akin to say sermon prep.
Scenario #3 - Once I've made the above notes / references, I'd like to see them whenever I across the referenced verse in the "Bible view."

Is these feature now available in Accordance 12? Please advise at your earliest chance. Thank you and God bless!

For me, this is what i use stacks for.

Similar to your scenario #1 & scenario #2 Typical sermon using the lectionary will have multiple readings

Eg for trinity sunday

Principal Service

Isaiah 40.12-17,27-31

Psalm 8

2 Corinthians 13.11-13

Matthew 28.16-20

i will create a stack and dump my thoughts and research into it and then reorder. See dr j's podcast 149 for a good introduction.

Not sure about scenario #3 though.

Happy easter.

Got it - thank you and blessed Easter indeed! Per your comment and in reviewing stacks, it looks like the specific capability to make a user note reference multiple verses does not exist yet. My hope was to make notes and link passages (i.e. on a certain topic like "On election") to previous notes as I read. That way in the future, I can update the topical notes and verse references as I come across them as I read the Bible again. I wonder if this feature is a priority / on deck for a future update. Thank you again!

As far as I know, you cant do this. It does seem to me quite weird that you can't do this. It seems like wanting to make a note associated with a passage would be quite common and reasonable.

I assume there are legacy technical limitations that would make implementing this difficult, which is a shame. Perhaps one day we will get it.

I have been thinking about this for some time. Having just watched dr j's excellent (as usual) podcast on stacks, as i have never 'got on with notes', i think i would prefer to see links to stacks from within the text or tool. For example, it could be great to see that i have put a definition from nidntte in a stack, or a map from carta, or some comment from a study bible or some text from a bible and click on that so it opens the use in the appropriate stack.

For me stacks are the logical way forward as they already cover multiple verses rather than having research in stacks and then having multi verse notes. Not sure what you would see something was referenced in multiple stacks or how multiple verses show that they are in the same stack.

But i hope to see stacks developed further as they are the game changer for me. And when we get them in ios...
