Create new window for bringing up text

I experience a frequent annoyance in using the Accordance search window, namely attempting to bring up a Bible text when the word search is on & trying to search for a word when the verse search is on. I am ever having the annoying drop down window come out; thus if I made a mistake, I can't just click on verse & go -- I have to fool with that pop up window.

Thus I request that a new window be added to the right oblong window that has Words / Verses to select. There is a long blank space there in that bar. A window could go there reserved just for bringing up text to deal with. In fact, you could leave the main search window alone if you wish or better, make that window for Words search & the other for Verse.

Or you could use the key shortcut

CMD+;

That would be holding down the Command (or Apple) key and then pressing the ;

This toggles between word and verse searching

Also, these shortcuts work.

⌃⌘W (control+command+W) for a Word search

⌃⌘V for a Verse search

I personally appreciate the pop-up window guiding me along. It's only one extra key stroke (return) and I'm on my way.

I have experienced the same annoyance. I created an Ideas for Improving Accordance post that mentions this and others.

It seems that a verse reference could be recognized when in the word mode and the mode automatically switched and the verse search carried out without any interruption or user intervention.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for making the request and add my support for a change that reduces the need for user intervention.

Robert,

Accordance already does this if it's dealing with an unambiguous Scripture reference, such as Gen 1:1. The presence of a colon or period between two numbers makes it clear you meant to enter a reference, and Accordance will therefore ask you if you would like to do a verse search. It is the more ambiguous entry like Gen 1 which Accordance will not currently act upon except to bring up the word list.

I run into this, too. It would be nice if the "warning" dialog that appears when no verses can be found included an option for trying a verse search, even when the search entry was ambiguous enough that Accordance doesn't catch it "automatically"

Is your Accordance program different from mine? If I enter a verse ref when the word search is on, the pop up window appears. If then I hit return, Accordance inserts a different word into the search box, which I never wanted there & then I have to deal with that. This is a constant annoyance

Perhaps there could be a Preferences selection to disable that popup window.

I am over 45 years old. Now if you are not, then you don't appreciate that after about 45, one's eyes no longer focus at different distances from an object (presbyopia) . That means that if you have glasses on to see the screen, or in my case I sit back about 7 feet from a huge monitor & don't wear glasses when I do Accordance. That means I don't see the keys on the keyboard as well as I did years ago. I touch type. I don't think I could learn to touch type such a complicated short cut.

The simple solution is to have separate search windows or at least make that an option in preferences. Why should you have to be operating shortcut keys before a search? That becomes a long cut. One wants to just do one's research without constant obstacles.

Surely it would not be rocket science to add this desirable feature.

Thanks for telling me this. Do you mean to press 3 keys simultaneously or 2? Is your plus symbol meant to designate one of 3 keys to push?

At any rate, it would be highly desirable not to have to go to the time-wasting bother of chosing which search category to use. Separate search windows wud mean u could do it right away, without forever having to change the search type. This could be made a preference in preferences. And it would not hurt anyone who wants to continue using just one box for both types of searches, if there is such a person who prefers to be always choosing the search type. Is there actually someone who prefers using one window & having to select all the time?

If you have to go through a diaglog box, then Accordance is not automatically "doing this." Should we say semi-automatically? Or would it be more accurate to say that Accordance is activating a pop-up box automatically & making you go through changes before you can do your search? like Safari does when you try to use the back arrow & wish it would just go back. Steve Jobs asks you if you really want to go back; or are you sure you want to resend a form. (If one had not wanted to go back, one wud not have clicked the back arrow on the screen).
