just tried to update to 8.4.2 through the application and from a downloaded .dmg file. Installer opens checks authorization then closes. That's all it did. Never had problems before.

10.6.2 16 GB MHz DDR2 F7BDDE

x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

Hmm wonder whats up?

Help

Helen,

I noticed this morning that the compile of 8.4.2 also affects opening the atlas on my 1.67 GHz G4 PowerBook w/ 10.5.8. It displays three warnings, then crashes the whole program.

I've attached a series of screenshots with the error messages before the crash (in case this might help you run down the problem with the new compiler).

Best regards,

Ron

Still unable to update from 8.4.1. Tried with the application (Check for Updates) It mounts the install app on desk top and I downloaded the dmg file from the Accordance download page. I dbl click the install app it pops up a small dialogue Authentication in progress, something of that nature as it is only up for a second or so, then it closes. Did the trash the general preference and still nothing. Have never had problem in past. My thought is that something in the installer is out of whack.

Please advise

Remember that there is a conflict between Spellcatcher and the installers. You may need to remove Spellcatcher if you have it, before you can run the installer.

I use SpellCatcher and have for years. I never remember seeing a post or a note or a discussion about a conflict with Accordance installers (other than the discussion now on the other thread). Has this been the case for a long time? Is it just a recent conflict? Why is there a conflict? The creator of SpellCatcher is VERY much a stickler on his programming and code and abiding by Apple's rules. I would be curious as to who/what's at fault and how/when it will be fixed.

I will wait to update until I am sure that I can have/use both. I don't think uninstalling one program to update another is a good work around.

I too am a user of SpellCatcher and found that I could not apply Accordance updates when the SpellCatcher Activator was "active" (a workaround for Snow Leopard). Now that SpellCatcher has been updated to 10.3.4, the Activator is no longer necessary. However, now one must "quit" SpellCatcher, apply the update and then relaunch SpellCatcher again. No uninstall or restart is necessary. I use and appreciate both programs but would tend to think that Accordance would be the program that most likely conforms to the Apple Standards, but that is just an opinion. What is interesting is that I figured out the conflict by a process of elimination. I thought I probably was the only one who used both programs so I never posted anything.

Ron: Thanks for the screenshots. My initial guess is either something funny with the memory (I suggest a restart to confirm that), or that somehow your Altitude data file got corrupted. If the restart doesn't work and 8.4.3 doesn't fix it, check your Altitude Data file. Its found in [Accordance Folder]/Atlas Files. Make sure it has the correct icon (not a blank one) and that it wasn't modified recently for any reason.

What's the story on the Altitude Data file - especially if there is no icon and it has been updated recently? Every time I open the Atlas and move my mouse it crashes Accordance with no pop ups or anything. 8.4.3 MBP 13.3 Intel

The file is corrupt, as Joel suggested below, it does not have an icon and has been modified. It should look like this:

I would replace it manually with a new copy from the DVD or CD-ROM.

Since I'm in Europe and my disc is in Arkansas, can I get someone to E-mail it to me? :-)

A 500 MB file cannot be emailed.

That's what another friend just said - so much for me paying attention
