Λύχνις Δαν
Hi ya, I was looking at the Apostolic Fathers Third Edition by Holmes and the AF by Lightfoot. The latter (http://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=AFL-T) says that its "tagged" which I assume means grammatically tagged, while the former (http://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=AF-T) says : "The Greek text has been grammatically tagged and lemmatized by Rex A. Koivisto." So I wonder what the difference is from a tagging point of view, and what lemmatized means ? Anyone know ? Thx D
Joe Weaks
Daniel, They are simply now using 'tagged' as shorthand for both grammatically tagged and lemmatized (tagged with lemmas). "Lemmatized" means that every word in the text has been tagged or encoded so as to identify it with the lemma (the dictionary form) of that word. Λύχνις Δαν
Thanx Joe. I guess I'd never considered tagging words without lexical information. Can one assume that all current texts are both grammatically tagged and lemmatized or would older works not have been updated ? I'm also wondering what functional differences that leads in to in the modules - I presume ID is affected but amplifying to a lexicon might also be. I guess that's a question for the module developers. Thx D
Abram K-J
I think the module description pages are generally pretty good about noting if the text is tagged or not. There is an untagged Vulgate, for example, and a tagged one. The functional difference for me would be whether or not I can get the parsing information on a given word. I can't see how amplifying to a lexicon would be affected, but perhaps others will weigh in.
Helen Brown
There is no difference in the tagging between these modules. The differences are in the text, the translation, and all the notes.
Λύχνις Δαν
Ah ok - many thanx for that Helen. Thx D
Joe Weaks
…Can one assume that all current texts are both grammatically tagged and lemmatized or would older works not have been updated ?… Yes, if a text is described as 'tagged', then it is tagged both grammatically and lexically. There was never a text released that only had grammatical info tagged, but not lexical info. All you are seeing in the first example is inconsistency in the way it was described.
