Tony Lawrence Posted November 26, 2009 Share Posted November 26, 2009 I took advantage of the recent sale of the Biblical Archaeology Review Archive. It was a great purchase and I recommend those interested in biblical archaeology purchase it before the sale ends. However, I have a suggestion for improving it. I have been a subscriber of the print edition of BAR for over a decade and have found the photos and graphics contained in the print edition to be superb. The current module, like the other Accordance modules, features great search abilities. One disappointment is the quality of the photos. They are not nearly as good as the those in the PhotoGuide. The photos and graphics in the BAR Archive are grainy and small. As such they do not reproduce well when copied and pasted into Keynote or Powerpoint. Since the current module is from 1975-2003, an update should be forthcoming in the not too distant future. Upgrading the quality of the photos would greatly enhance this useful tool. I go there first before I look at my BAR or BAS Bible World in Pictures. It's worth noting though, that when using pictures from BAR or BAS World in Pictures, they seem to render slightly more clear in Keynote than in PowerPoint. (I would love it if Accordance would also have a module with Todd Bolen's photos. http://bibleplaces.com/, http://blog.bibleplaces.com/) The Bible World in Pictures (BAS) and Biblical Archaeology Review Archives Accordance modules have many pictures (and diagrams) not in Bible Lands PhotoGuide. It would be nice to have the Accordance BAR Archives module expanded to include 2004-2009. I appreciate all the work the OakTree staff spent in "Photoshopping" the photos in the BAS Pictures module to improve the quality for Accordance. There have been complaints about the quality of BAS Photo Archives Complete Set released by the Biblical Archaeological Society itself. http://www.padfield.com/2009/bas-photos.html (I would agree with the reviewer that the quality of the Ancient Inscription CD is good.) I also agree with arnehalbakken about the photo sets of Todd Bolen at bibleplaces.com. I have the full set of the Pictorial Library of the Bible Lands and the Historic Views of the Holy Land. Todd's descriptions of the photos are extremely helpful. Anyone needing to supplement their photo library would benefit from his collection. While my personal website <http://biblelandphotos.org> has several hundred photos of the Bible Lands that are free they are not the quality of either the PhotoGuide or Todd Bolen's series.
