Please Help With Greek Key Number Confusion

Beloved John

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Today I hovered my input device over the word 'knew' in Mark 1:34 to find the key number information in the Instant Details pane on two lines, and the top line had an unfamiliar numbering format (please see attached image). This Greek key number is G3608a0000. This key number is not listed in any of my Greek tools, Greek Strong's, Mounce Greek Dictionary, NAS Greek, or Greek Keys. Nonetheless, the closet find is G3608a in the Greek Keys.

1) Since Instant Details is showing the word 'knew' in Mark 1:34 as the Greek key number G3608a0000, how do I specifically find the details on it in reference to this specific Greek key number? And if there is no further information to be found, should it be removed?

2) Can Greek key number G3608a accurately replace G3608a0000 in Mark 1:34?

Blessings,

John

Hi John, that is not a format I recognise. The 0000 is spurious I am sure.

Can you please report this as a correction using the help menu, but it doesn’t occur in any of the keyed English Bibles I tried. So, can you please post here

1. What is you OS and Accordance version

2. Which text you are searching (and the version of that text - do “about the text” from the contextual menu)

But before you do that, make sure you are up to date with your texts in “Check for content update” in the Accordance menu (Mac) or the Utilities Menu (Win). If they need updating, please do so and try again.

As to the question "Can Greek key number G3608a accurately replace G3608a0000 in Mark 1:34?” I am not quite sure what you are asking. Try searching for the key G3608a and see if Mark 1:34 appears. [KEY G3608a]

Let us know how you go.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for offering your assistance!

I'm not entirely sure Accordance would think of this as a bug (coding error). The unfamiliar Greek key number (G3608a0000) is searchable in the Accordance database. If it were a bug, it more than likely wouldn't be searchable in the database? In other words, it probably isn't a typo. Someone meant to code it that way (please read further). But now, with your help spurring me on, I've gone a little deeper, finding the answer to one of my questions. Please see the attached video. As you will see in the video there is not a word associated with G3608a0000, so I haven't found any specific information on it; however I've learned one way to search for the key number using the Key Numbers command from the Search pull-down menu, and this results in 310 hits, which may not be a coding bug.

1. What is you OS and Accordance version

OS X Mavericks 10.9.5

Accordance 9.6.8

2. Which text you are searching (and the version of that text - do “about the text” from the contextual menu)

NKJVS 2.2

But before you do that, make sure you are up to date with your texts in “Check for content update”

Done. All of my Accordance content is up-to-date, meaning no updates are available.

No, when doing a key number search on G3608a only one hit comes up, John 1:33.

Unfortunately, the forum says I am not permitted to upload the video file. So, I'll try a PDF of a series of images.

And if it is determined this is a bug, I will surely use the help menu to report it.

BLESSINGS!

If you zip the video, you’ll be able to upload it, I think it probably is not a bug (as in a coding error) but a text issue. I think that the extra 0’s are in the text and that is being complied into the indexes etc in Accordance.

(BTW - must be time to upgrade to v11 ;) )

Having a look a little closer, it seems that there is a generic keying issue. I will report it and I think the mod developers will see this post as well.

It is just possible that it was intentional, though I can’t imagine why.

At this point I don't know one way or the other without the actual developer's comment(s).

I have no plans to upgrade. Where Accordance is concerned at this stage in my walk with Christ I've already purchased enough modules, and the majority of the things that came with Accordance I couldn't go through in a lifetime, unless I just wanted to rush through them just to say I'd done it. It's like having that bookshelf of books that are more decoration than anything else. It might be nice to have new bells & whistles, but in my opinion the price exceeds the need, in that regard.

If you still wish to see the video I did compress it and uploaded it as a zip file. Thanks for the tip, Ken!

Blessings!
