Web Version of Accordance

I wonder if Oak Tree has ever considered doing a web version of accordance that would allow you to have access to your resources via the Internet a la Biblia.org?

I believe that this has been proposed on the forums before, but I can't remember when or in which thread. Anyway, while I'm not a fan of the idea myself, I can see why some might find it useful.

I don't understand why any existing Accordance user, who could use it on a Mac, iPhone, iPad or Windows PC would *need* a web version as well.

Oh, I guess that it could be handy if you don't have your tablet/computer with you and are using public computers at a faculty or some similar institution - but that is never the case for me.

It would be so slow compared to a native app.

Very true - You'd constantly be at the mercy of external servers and your own internet connection

I have a Chromebook that I use sometimes. It is also useful if you are using a Linux machine.

And, it would be nice to be able to pull up my resources when I am not near a computer with Accordance. Or my Android tablet or phone (until the Android version is developed).

Speed would not be a big factor for just pulling up resources and reading.

Another Bible softwares servers went down and caused their mobile apps to become useless (download resources were erased when a server verifying the downloaded books were legal) features of their desktop programs ceased to work. Now no one expects a server to go down, but I am very happy that the iOS is a fully offline thing and that Accordance desktop functions fully without servers. One should be very careful what want wishes for lest they get it. I have no objection to a web based option but also do not really want Accordance to head in a direction where things are cloud based.

I'm with Dan on this.

It is indeed unfortunate that such a catastrophic event can deprive people of the resources that they have paid for. Interestingly, my library from that company is currently unavailable on my iPad but available (even resources not downloaded) on my Android tablet.

These are the perils that come with having things up "in the cloud" and a good reason why I have resources spread out over several different platforms (including print) so that I am never "dead in the water" when one company's servers go down.

This is a wonderful idea!

1) It is yet another way for the gospel of God to get out.

2) In the interest of those that profit from the sales of Accordance software, it is exposure to those people that A. do not have the ability to run Accordance software on desktop computers or smartphones, B. and the exposure could be offered in the same way it is offered in smartphone apps where some content is free. This could or should lead to more sales.

3) Access to our purchased content may be easier to load to a cloud-based resource. Currently, when we use Accordance to login to our account we login with access only to 'our own purchased modules'.

Having access to our stuff is cool, but may not be completely necessary in the cloud, but some people still don't purchase all of the latest hardware and/or software, and being able to access Accordance via a web browser might be very helpful to them. And perhaps they could use that access to either continue with the free content or even purchase modules.

Just go back to the time when people wished to have Accordance run on a Windows computer. Or go back to the time when a Windows computer was available, but one needed a Mac to use Accordance. A web browser is multi-platform compatible, and suitable to a much larger audience.

Blessings!
