Accordance 8 Background Colors

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a tech support issue, so I thought I'd post it in tech support first.

I have attempted to switch the text and tool background colors to some of those offered by Accordance (Parchment, Sky, etc.) on my 24" Intel iMac. I find that the only way for me to get any color at all is to do a custom color. None of the "canned" colors seem to work for me on the iMac. I switch texts and tools to make sure that my changes in the Preferences will work, but to no avail.

On the MacBook Pro, the Accordance colors seem to work fine.

Thanks.

Hi Brent,

I was having problems with this too. In my case, I didn't have the colors set high enough (after setting it to millions of colors the problem was solved, though you may not need to go that high). Also, have you been closing your workspace and then reopening a workspace. I don't think the changes take place until after you close the workspace.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the input. I checked my settings and my display is currently set to millions of colors. No matter what settings I have, I must create my own custom color in order to have a background color for texts and tools. Certainly not a major problem for me, but one I thought I'd bring to someone's attention.

The defined colors are very faint. It may just be your monitor, or perhaps the brightness of the screen. Unless someone else reports that they cannot see any of these colors, we have to assume that the problem is at your end.

It's definitely not the brightness. I've created the custom colors and they show up just fine. If I'm the only one, then I would agree that it must be my system. Thanks Helen.

Curious, one way to find out if it is the screen would be to select a faint custom color. For instance, click on custom and then click on the crayon box in the upper right of the color pallet. Once there, click on the second color up from the bottom right named Mercury. Mercury is 10% gray and I would think that if you can see Mercury but not the accordance defined custom backgrounds then maybe deleting preferences may make a difference?

  • 10 months later...

I just upgraded to 8.2.3. I had not previously tried to set any background colors other than white.

I notice that when using the preferences panel ("Text Display") to set the Text Background to "Parchment" nothing happens.

I can individually click on the 8 panels I have open and then individually select Display > Set Tool Display and set the Text Background to "Parchment" for each panel everything turns to "parchment background" and works just fine until I close the application. When I start Accordance again everything is back to white.

Using the Preferences panel to set the "Tool Display" to set "parchment" works properly. When I close the application and then re-open it, clicking on a reference will bring up a window with a parchment background.

My Mac is a Mac Pro 2.67GHZ. quad processor with 7GB of memory running Mac 10.5.7

Am I forgetting to do something or is this a bug?

James,

When you make a display change in the Preferences, that change applies to all subsequently opened windows. We don't want to automatically overwrite some custom display setting you did for a particular window or setup, so that's why none of the currently open panes get the parchment background.

Rather than going to the display settings for each of those panes, you can simply switch the text in those panes to something else, and then switch them back.

Hope this helps.

P.S.: If Accordance is starting up with a previously saved window or session, you'll need to resave it with the new setup. That's why the panes are returning to white when you relaunch.

David,

Thanks for your help. It worked perfectly- I really like the parchment background- less eyestrain.

Jim
