Latin Master?

Hi there!

I was wondering why there isn't a "Latin Master" in the same vein as Hebrew/Greek Master. As far as I can tell, Accordance has a lot of Latin texts available (with some in English translation only), but there isn't a single package that focuses on the entire Latin corpus and nothing else. As it stands right now, it's sort of spread out between these following packages:

1. The Catholic Documents Group

This package offers a lot of classic Catholic texts, some of them in both Latin and English versions, including a Latin dictionary but that is it. The church fathers is found in another packaged called Shaff's Church Fathers and Church History modules (in English) - with some of the church fathers being Greek, I can see why it isn't found here, though.

2. Bibles and texts to add to the Starter Collection

Pretty much an extended version of the first package. This one has the same modules including Thomas Aquinas' famed Summa Theologica (only in English) and two writings on catholic spiritual life from the middle ages (also only in English). It also includes a Spanish translation of the Bible, Mounce's Concise Greek dictionary of the New Testament, Koehlenberger/Mounce's Concise Hebrew/Aramaic dictionary and two Vulgate editions (Nova Vulgata and the Clementine version), both of them being untagged/no apparatus. While it has some materials that have nothing to do with Latin per se and no tagged Weber edition of the Vulgate with apparatus either, this is still perhaps the closest thing there is to Latin Master right now.

NB: On an entirely different note, there is a typo on the product page for one of the medieval texts (The Imitation of Christ by Thomas á Kempis), where it reads "The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis is a Christian devotional book first composed in Lain about 1427." Nothing serious, of course, but I thought I'd let you know.

3. GBS Apparatus add-on to HMT-W4, GNT28-T, LXX1 (with NA28)

This package has the tagged Weber edition of the Biblia Sacra Vulgata with apparatus, but it also includes similar modules for the Greek and Hebrew Bibles.

I guess what I'm looking for here is a package that includes all the different Vulgate versions - especially the tagged Weber edition with apparatus - perhaps high quality pictures of the manuscripts, a bunch of relevant Latin texts (translated as well) and language tools to go with it all. And nothing else - just like the Hebrew and Greek Master.

With kind regards

The typo is fixed, thanks. I am not sure how much interest there would be in the Latin Master.

Well, the thread hasn't garnered much interest as of yet, so there's that, too. In that regard, the threads about Ancient Near Eastern texts and materials are doing a whole lot better - much to my surprise (with it being a niche field of study and all.) But it's a pleasant surprise.

Hi Pchris,

let me just mention, that I am one of the few people who are also doing research on the Latin Bible. There are many more texts which would be very useful to have in Accordance. I am thinking of the apparatus of the Roman Vulgate and the Old Latin Editions. But, well, I think, we are quite alone with this requirements. So, this comment won't help much.

Yours, Boni

Hi Boni

I strongly believe that every little bit helps, so don't give up! Granted, rallying for a niche cause is difficult at times, so perseverance is key here. Making a poll is a good way to start in order to get at an indication of how much interest there might actually be..

With kind regards
