AMD Processors

I have tried Accordance 10 on a Windows 7 Machine at work (Core 2 Duo), on Virtual Box running Windows XP, and under an AMD 2.5 GHz duo core processor running Windows XP.

I’ve found that running Accordance on the AMD machine is virtually useless because of how slow the program performs. Even under the virtual Windows XP (host system is a Mac Mini 2.5 GHz), Accordance runs remarkably fast for a virtual machine.

Have you had any other reports like this?

I still prefer the Mac look and feel and speed, but it is nice to have access to my library anywhere I go.

Has anyone tried Accordance on a Notebook running the Atom processor?

For the record, my PC is an AMD and I run it without problems. Could you describe what's so slow about it, or any other system details?

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.6 GHz Dual Core processor running Windows XP with 2 GB of RAM using a Gigabyte Motherboard. The problem is loading texts or perfoming searches is not as instantaneous as it is on my Mac (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz, 8 GB running Mountain Lion). Loading is noticibly longer than on my Mac, that's it. I can't explain it further, Accordance is just about 10 times slower on my AMD PC than my Mac. Even the virtual Windows XP on the Mac is just as fast as the native Mac version.

As a chemistry professor, I am aware that most software drivers and applications for speciality instruments are not done with AMD processors, only intel, because of compatibly issues the instrument companies always run into. A Shimadzu representative once told me this directly, the rest I found on the internet. Bottomline, I'll only be using Intel processors in my future custom PC builds.

There is a dramatic difference in memory between the two machine. I would think that could be the difference. Windows XP was really bad handling memory compared to Windows 7, for example. So I would think it may be more a memory or that you are using an outdated Windows operating system. Windows XP is a VERY old operating system… circa 2001. You cannot compare its performance with that of a MAC with 8GB running Mountain Lion.

XP is a very old system and will be no longer supported by Microsoft from early next year so you should be planning to change the machine anyway.

I've just put the program on my wife's netbook with only 1 GB of RAM and a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom single-core processor running Windows XP. Accordance still runs faster on that machine than on my AMD desktop! Sorry guys, the problem is not Windows XP.

As I stated before, the AMD processors are not 100% compatible with Intel. There may be a glitch in the older AMD processor that by chance I found using Accordance that might not exist in the later processors. I can't say what it is but I do know it to be possible.
