Understanding User Notes, and other thoughts

Is it correct to say that User Notes is a file consisting of user-written info, all of which is and must be keyed to a verse or verses?

What I'm looking for is a way to gather my thoughts regarding a study or search.

For example, I search for the word 'shepherd' in the Gospels. (PS, why no pre-defined search ranges?)

Now I look through the verses. (PS, the list becomes confusing once context is added, eg 3 verses. Everything jumbles together and it's hard to visually differentiate the results. Is there a way to automatically differentiate the results, eg a line between each result, or several blank lines, or highlighting each result with it's context? )

If I want to write down my thoughts comparing the search verses, is there a way to have a note attached to the Workspace, or the search, or the saved 'project'? Or must I used an external word processor?

thanks,

Scott

Scott, you are correct about User Notes being tied to a verse. Accordance also offers User Tools, which are not tied to a specific verse. That's the better option for the kind of word study that you mentioned.

If you haven't pre-defined any ranges yourself yet, you can download a set of ranges from Accordance Exchange. They are filed with the highlights, even though it is really not a highlights file.

I agree that the context view can be confusing. You might find it more helpful to have a separate window to amplify to, using the context button.

For the kind of study you are referring to, I would use a User Tool instead of a User Note. The User Tool is organized however you want it organized. It has a browser that you can create.

I have several User Tools. I take many of my notes from sem. classes in them. Two User Tools I've named OT Word Studies and NT Word Studies. Whenever I have to do a word study for a given paper, I enter all the data I find into the appropriate User Tool. That way, over time, I end up with a sort of personal lexicon typically recording more data than any lexicon I use as a source (which is then fully searchable by Scripture reference, English, Greek, Hebrew, and Rosetta. For each word I list out the etymology, lexical definition(s)/discussion, usage, and any other sources that comment on the word. I've found I like my way of using User Tools. Does that sound like a good solution to you? Would you augment it in any way? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
