Construct search (Greek): verse is missing

I'm currently studying the Construct Window (always did I search with the commands). After hearing Podcast #21 I entered this search:

post-30442-0-25404100-1391974584_thumb.png

Mt 1.23 is missing in the results but should come up with this search.

What am I missing here?

Thanks, Hans

Hi Hans,

I played with this a bit. Its a bit odd. If you drop the INTER and increase to WITHIN to 3 you get Matt 1:23. The question is why. I had a theory but I think its all wet now. I also don't know why the INTER has to be dropped either, though with WITHIN 1 it seems redundant to me.

Thx
D

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for looking into this issue. Please see the video I referred to. WITHIN 1 is essential here.

The text I used is GNT28-T and NT27-T.

I tried to change the Range, but that does not change the result. IMHO, Mt 1.23 should come up as a result.

I tried the GNT-BYZ and this text has Mt 1.23 :-)

Perhaps the text of GNT28-T and NT27-T (and more texts I believe) is not tagged correctly here.

Hi Hans,

Yep I agree that Matt 1:23 should be there. I tried GNT-T which is the 27 variant - doesn't show. GNT-WH does show it. So does Tischendorf. So yep it looks like issue with GNT*-T. It may be the way the participle is tagged. In the GNT*-T you'll see its got a pair of tags, whereas WH and TIS do not. I don't have BYZ so cannot check it. GNT-TR works also and again only one tagged form.

GNT28-T :

μεθερμηνευόμενον μεθερμηνεύω (μετά, ἑρμηνεύω) Verb pres mid part neut sing nom
μεθερμηνευόμενον μεθερμηνεύω (μετά, ἑρμηνεύω) Verb pres pass part neut sing nom to translate, interpret (Predicate)

[ESVS] G3177 means

GNT-TIS:

μεθερμηνευόμενον μεθερμηνεύω (μετά, ἑρμηνεύω) Verb pres mid part neut sing nom to translate, interpret

[ESVS] G3177 means

I have no idea how increasing WITHIN is compensating for this, if this is the issue.

OK there is a similar case in Matt 1:16 : Matt. 1:16 Ἰακὼβ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν Ἰωσὴφ τὸν ἄνδρα Μαρίας, ἐξ ἧς ἐγεννήθη Ἰησοῦς ὁ λεγόμενος Χριστός.

λεγόμενος is doubly tagged. If you change the search for LEX to Ἰησοῦς and increase the WITHIN to 3 it fails. Only if you remove the INTER and increase the WITHIN to 5 do you get 1:16 in the hits.

This looks like a bug with multiply tagged words to me.

Thx
D

We are aware of this issue. It's on our list to improve the handling of variants and punctuation with the WITHIN command.

Hi Helen,

OK, thanks for the info. The WITHIN command is working for GNT-BYZ and others here, isn't this a tagging problem?

Well, I hope this is repaired. I did sleep well this night
