Syriac Font on the iPad

A user wants to copy text from Accordance on the iPad into Pages, but apparently the iPad does not include Syriac in any of its fonts. Can anyone tell us how to install an additional font, like the newSyr.ttf which is licensed for distribution with PESHNT-T?

I don't believe fonts can be installed by the user on the iPad. If the characters aren't in Unicode, I wouldn't know how they could be accessed.

Has anyone figured out how to add the Accordance family of fonts to the iPad? I have attempted to use Apple Configurator to do so, but the Accordance fonts are grayed out and cannot be selected in the Apple Configurator font selection window.

Have you run into this and do you have a solution?

Thanks,

John

As far as I know the situation has not changed: fonts installed in the app bundle are not accessible outside of the app.

"Apple Configurator" installs the fonts I have from somewhere:

BSTGreek.ttf
BSTHebrew.ttf
I can access these in Pages on the iPad. So it seems possible to install non-stock iPad fonts.
Perhaps Accordance fonts are not the correct font types, but I doubt that is the case.
I'm not certain if Configurator thinks the Accordance fonts are invalid or if it thinks the fonts are already installed since (I assume) Accordance on the iPad uses them.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not sure if we've tested that. And it looks like others are reporting invalid font issues.

Hi,

I bought my first iPad (and first Mac product) a few weeks ago, and I spent half of yesterday installing AnyFont and Unicode Pad on it (both $1.99).

With AnyFont I was able to install my preferred fonts that I use in Windows - e.g., Ezra SIL for Hebrew, Galatia SIL for Greek, various Phoenician and Paleo-Hebrew fonts, Libronix Apparatus Font, etc. They all work in Pages.

After you install AnyFont, copy any font to Dropbox, open it in Dropbox with AnyFont, and tap on it to install it. The new font will appear in Pages after you close and restart it.

It was easy to confirm that you can install a Syriac font in Pages. I couldn't find newSyr.ttf to try it, but I did try the Unicode Syriac font Estrangelo Edessa. I was able to copy and paste part of the Peshitta in Pages in Syriac.

With Unicode Pad I was able to type Hebrew consonants and vowels in Ezra SIL or any preferred font, with my custom keyboard. You could do the same for Syriac. Turn on "Use Extended Fonts," go to Unicode Scripts, and find Syriac.

Unicode Pad is like the Character Map in Windows, only better with regular and customizable keyboards and an editor in the same program. You can use it for any Unicode character, e.g., Hebrew accents.

I hope this helps.

Michael, thanks.

I installed AnyFont but couldn't get it to install the Accordance fonts until I split them with DfontSplitter. Then I could install one at a time with AnyFont, but I could not get it to install multiple fonts at a time.

I decided to try the split fonts with Apple Configurator. I was able to place all the fonts in a Profile and install them all at once on my iPhone 5. Subsequently I used the same Profile to install them on my iPad 2.

Looks like they are accessible in Pages. I guess the original problem I had was that they were in the wrong format when coming straight from the Mac OS Accordance versions.
