Acc 9: Zones

Hello folks,

Question for those who have been using the pre-release regarding zones-

How much do you foresee the zones feature being used on laptops, particularly 15'' and smaller? Was this feature made with large desktop screens in mind?

Thanks,

D&T

You will probably want to limit the automatic zones to 3, though you will still be able to create more.

I used a 15" MacBook Pro to record the podcast with the display size set to 1280x800. I found that very workable, though smaller sizes weren't so friendly. When I upped the resolution to 1440x900, I was in heaven

I think this depends a little on how you use Accordance already. If you tend to open a lot of panes in a window, you may find having even 2 - 3 zones open, a bit cramped. I use a 13" MB (1280 x 800), and I often find zones are taking up more screen space than I am ready to give up. That said, I also like using tabs a great deal, so that may be part of my bias . . its nice to have choices!

I think you'll find the Zones workable on a laptop. I run a MBP 15" @ 1449 x 900 and they seem to work well. Takes a bit of experimenting, but I'm getting the hang of it. I'm accustomed to keeping a 2d workspace tucked under the edge of the main one for BDAG. With multiple tabs in zones, I'm working now with one large workspace with the smaller right hand zone being tabbed for BDAG and HALOT. I suspect that a large monitor as the main/menu monitor would make them even more useful/flexible, but the 15" screen is workable (I don't know about 13"...).
