TheMinibishop
Hello all. I was under the impression that the app would understand the difference between a search for John and John 1:1 automatically, without me having to switch between "word" and "verse" mode. However, I always have to manually switch them. Is there a setting that I need to change (I can't seem to find it)?
Steve King
The problem with searching for something like 'John' on its own is that it would work in either verse or word mode. Therefore Accordance does not change the mode. If you are in verse mode and just type in 'John' it will stay in verse mode because that is a valid search - displaying all of John's gospel. If you are in word mode and type 'John 2' it will switch to verse mode and display John 2. However typing in 'John 2:1' in word mode will not switch to verse mode and you get an error message. This does not seem to be consistent with what is happening when you just type 'John 2'.

John 2 NOT John 2:5, correct? This is counterintuitive, right?
Ken Simpson
Hi, I am not seeing this behaviour. If I type in John 2:5 in word mode, Accordance jumps to John 2:5 and switches to verse mode for me. John 2 also works. Can you post a screen shot, or at least tell us what the error you are getting is? Thanks
Steve King
Hi Ken - just making sure that you are talking about IOS
Ken Simpson
Good catch Steve, you're right. The way I read the forums, the actual forum isn't always obvious, so I have made this mistake a couple of times. You are correct on your observations above... Sorry for the false hope (?) Steve King
So the trick is to type a book and chapter in the argument box and not a chapter and verse. John 2 NOT John 2:5, correct? This is counterintuitive, right? I think this is a bug. I do not see why John 2 should work and John 2:5 should not, but I will leave that to the experts. See the attached error below Ken it is very easy to miss the fact that it is IOS on the forums when you look at the unread list. I make that mistake all the time. TheMinibishop
That is precisely the error that I get! Even though I use Acc on my PC more than on iOS, I've been attempting to get efficient with it-just picking it up made me a little frustrated mainly because I didn't understand the different views. I watched a iOS podcast last night and I knew that the the automatic word/verse query was real, but I had never worked for me. But yes, that is the exact error message that I get. Scott Knapp
It should work just like the desktop app so if it is behaving differently then it is certainly a bug.
TheMinibishop
It should work just like the desktop app so if it is behaving differently then it is certainly a bug. Then perhaps I'll just report it. Perhaps it's already been done. I'll check. Thanks for the help!
