Copying workspaces from Win to Mac

Hi ya,

This came out of investigations of issues in this thread : http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13526

I tried creating a very simple workspace (hereafter WS) on Acc 10.4.5b1 and transferring it to Mac 10.4.3.2. I have tried this from Win 7 production 10.4.3.2 also and the result is the same. In either case I can open the workspace on the Mac but I cannot alter it and save it under the same name. If I try to I get this error message :

Now looking at the ls of the files in Mac I see this :

[Daniel-Semlers-iMac:~/Documents/Accordance Files] dsemler% ls -ltra TestWS28.accord Test30.accord
-rw------- 1 dsemler staff 2554 Sep 21 19:56 TestWS28.accord
-rw-r--r--@ 1 dsemler staff 2554 Sep 21 20:12 Test30.accord
[Daniel-Semlers-iMac:~/Documents/Accordance Files] dsemler%

Now Test30.accord is a similar simple WS created natively on Mac Acc.

So what is the @ symbol about ? Turns out there are extended attrs on the file but there are none on the one copied from Win.

[Daniel-Semlers-iMac:~/Documents/Accordance Files] dsemler% xattr -l TestWS28.accord Test30.accord
Test30.accord: com.apple.FinderInfo:
00000000 41 43 43 33 41 43 43 30 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |ACC3ACC0........|
00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................|
00000020

If I use xattr and add the information then I can save the WS transferred from Win.

So I am wondering if this is expected or not ? I am also puzzled if DB based files have the same behaviour or not ? I suspect they cannot because DB probably wouldn't know an OSX extended attr if it tripped over one.

The reason I ask is that I am trying to work out if I can in fact supply just a single Windows based ZIP file from my Win box to the exchange or if I need to build one for Win and one for Mac. I rather think the latter at this point.

Thx

D

The extended attributes are storing the old school file type and creator code information. This information shouldn't be necessary if the proper file extension is in place. So looks like a bug.

Ah ok thanx Scott. In the meantime I will try creating the workspace on the Mac and transferring it to Win and see if that provides a workaround to avoid creating two different distros.

Thx
